39 But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Luke 12: 39-40
We all share a very important mission today as we wait for Christ’s return: we are to be ready. Each day we are to pray, be focused and sober-minded, and keep our eyes open to what God has for His Kingdom work to be done. The more we allow ourselves to be distracted by worldly passions, the more opportunities we miss to serve God in meaningful ways.
Every day brings new moments, even when we are working through the same familiar to-do list. The people we talk to, encounter, or pass by each day all have importance in God’s mission. If we are distracted or simply not paying attention, we will miss these moments. There is always work to be done for Christ, and today is just as important as the days leading up to His birth—when Mary and Joseph were searching for a place to stay so Jesus could be born.
God has placed us where we are today because He loves us and He loves those around us. Whether we are the ones in need of help or the ones able to offer support and encouragement, today matters because God created it and placed you in it. Don’t give up on this journey. Don’t numb your mind with the things of this world. Talk to God. Talk to those around you, and ask to see what God is calling you to do as we wait for His return.

Heavenly Father, we come to you this morning to really stop and think about the mission You have for us today. Whether we go or stay, this is the day You have made and we have spiritual work to do. It might be paying attention to our children, praying and reading our Bible's more or talking to the strangest person we know but all will be done for Your Kingdom today. Open our eyes to today's mission and how we can humbly help. We surrender our will to Yours because we know Yours is good. Grow in us a new spirit today so that we may seek first Your Kingdom.
In Jesus's name. Amen.
