18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
Mark 10: 18
There was only one star—one leading light. There is also only one way to be united with God. Caesar Augustus was Rome’s first emperor, and he was treated as a god. They even said that when he was born, it was “good news for the world.” How often do we hear that this next change, technology, or leader is the next greatest thing?
Social media icons and groups, first overall draft picks in any sport, the latest technology promising a better life—what do all these have in common? They are little “g” gods of this world, and they do not lead to peace. They are things people pick up and put down when they become inconvenient or when every last drop of value has been used and something new is needed.
The world has an unquenchable thirst, and we don’t always recognize it. People are told that the next best thing will finally be different from the rest, yet they all end up being forgotten just the same.
Jesus is the only One who is different from the rest of the world. He isn’t forgotten. Love Him or hate Him, His name is still on our lips daily. Recognize today that everything else will fade, but Jesus is eternal—the only One who can fill the God-sized hole we often try to satisfy with earthly things. And that star in the sky is pointing us straight to Him. We are just a few days away from the celebration.

Jesus, You are the One True God. Thank You. You calm our anxieties and fears that the world brings us daily. You never leave us nor forsake us. Thank You. Be with those with us this morning and fill us all with Your Spirit so we may see that you, indeed, are the One True God. Lead us and give us the grace to walk in humility today. And be with those who don't think You see them today. Remind them that You will never leave them.
In Your name we pray together. Amen.
