5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
John 9: 5
We are now fully in the time of lights. We look around our houses and our towns and see them everywhere. Even cold, dark nights can’t hide the lights we turn on as soon as the sun sets. We joke about putting them up too soon—only during a certain football game each year—or even brag about being the first on our block to have all our lights up while it was still shorts weather!
If we pause and think a little deeper, why do Christmas lights return each year? Without much thought, we might miss one of the greatest symbols of Christmas: the Light of the world. Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overtake it. Nothing can hide in the light.
There is comfort in light—it is how God designed it. In the light, we can see what is happening both physically and spiritually. Living in the light brings peace and joy. There is no shame when you live in the light; it removes guilt and shame.
Let us thank God for the Light today.
God, You are the light. Thank You for reminding us that today. We look deeper into the meaning of Christmas light and we remember You. Thank You for beinging us back into the light. We couldn't do it without You. Light up this world like only You can do. Shine into each dark area of this world so that we can all priase Your name more. Holy Spirit come and fill us with your peace.
In Jesus's name we pray. Amen.
