The 3x3 dot matrix in the red circle is the Google services launcher on the Gmail page. Click on the dots for some handy tools, some of which are explained below. With a logon name and password, you have entry to the tools listed below. You can also get to them by using Google search to find any of tools.
Some Google services that have helped me are Blogger - post my blog Fear, Fun and Filoz
Sites - have my web site Kirbyvariety
Calendar - Lynn and I put both our events on this
Contacts - the more, the better
Voice - texting, switching back and forth to and fro Gmail
Translate - 60 languages
News - from sources all over
Photos - our pictures
Drive (includes Docs for general writing, Sheets for arithmetic, data handling and money, Slides for presentations and talks and Drive for file and photo storage)
