Example of Google Alert report
This bounced because email systems thought it was spam. Lynn and her brother are interested in space, astronomy and related sciences. I have an alert on the subject of "northern lights" that I pass on to them once a week.

As I have written before, Google Alerts is surprisingly valuable for some purposes. If you or a friend or loved one has a specialized interest, Google Alerts can function as your own private news reporting service. I have often found that something seems quite interesting to me but rarely comes up and nearly never gets reported in the places I look for news, like Time magazine, The Atlantic, Google News and the Wisconsin State Journal. Say my nephew is interested in Hawaiian dance in Arabic countries. I go to Google Alerts, put the underlined words in and voila, I will get a report from Google of what it can find on that subject. Just about the same as a search, I know. But when something is emerging, when I want to keep abreast of the latest news, research, etc. the Alert will continue to send me reports on the subject until I delete it. I especially like that I can set the frequency of reports to one a week. That is just about how often I want to know about new things on the subject, having plenty to do besides keeping up with Arabic applications of the hula.
It does something good for me to ask myself what interests I have that might be furthered by a Google Alert. If I want to stay up on Crohn's disease or the silver market, those topics may come to mind during a quick review of what I care about.
