Our Story
The vision for Kairos Missions may have started many years ago, but my wife and I only saw pieces of the vision until recently on January 6, 2020. At the beginning of this New Year, we felt a deep burden in our hearts and decided to go on a mini retreat to not only celebrate our 24th anniversary, but also to seek God. After having quiet time with the Lord, God clearly spoke to us and gave us the name for our ministry: Kairos. We sensed that people around the world, but especially in the United States, were losing their spiritual fervor and commitment to God. It seems like many of us are just so busy with our day to day lives that we are not being the strong, effective Christian that we should be. My wife and I fully understand this because we have been full-time employees. However, we also know that change is needed. With this burning conviction, we knew that Kairos Missions had to start immediately.
The fire in our hearts started after reading about the history of the U.S. and its Christian roots. We were challenged by circuit riders such as George Whitefield and Francis Asbury, who rode tirelessly for thousands of miles each year on horseback to preach the Good News, to encourage the body of Christ and help them grow in their faith. These passionate men of God persevered through all kinds of weather conditions in countless dangerous situations as well as suffering from hunger and sickness to serve the Almighty God. Because of their dedication, the Church grew in great numbers back then. Fast forward to the current issues we are facing in our nation today, we are in the place of great spiritual compromise. We see the increase of strife, division, lawlessness, the love of most growing cold, and there is no fear of God. Now more than ever, we need a revival in our nation, and my wife and I hope to be the vessels whom God uses to stir up this renewed spirit as we travel to each state.
We knew that in order for us to do ministry full-time, God would have to set us free from our current employment to be able to go wherever God leads in His perfect timing. It's strange how quickly God answers prayer. Within a week of receiving the revelation, the company that I worked for went into bankruptcy. With no job, this meant I needed to give my income completely to God and depend on Him to personally provide my salary. By God's conviction, my wife also resigned from her job. As we have been reading biographies of George Muller and other faithful Christians, they have inspired us to completely trust in God. Giving my income to God has been the biggest and most fearful challenge of my Christian life even though I've been saved for 32 years. I have served God in various churches in Arizona and California for over 20 years but only on a part-time basis. However, we have never served at a church for the purpose of becoming paid staff members because our employer has always been God. Our primary objective was and will always be serving God and serving the needs of God's flock. Never has God failed to meet our needs; He has always been faithful. It's been interesting how God has provided for us from the time that we surrendered our income. Among some of the ways that God has provided, He opened the door for me to drive for Uber for just over a month and be able to share the gospel and pray for complete strangers. My wife also tested out the selling app called Offer Up to sell some of our furniture and household items, and it proved to be very fruitful. However, the biggest blessing was our children seeing the vision of our ministry and being convicted by God to fully support us. Emily (23), Noah (21), and Elijah (17) are going to college and working full-time, and we are homeschooling our youngest, Samuel (13). What a joy it is that our four children are still living with us, and recently my parents have also moved in with us! In addition, the proceeds of their home that just sold is being distributed to meet our financial needs. We trust that God will provide even more, for the journey is just beginning. God is Good! The God who created and provided for people like George Whitefield, George Muller, Hudson Taylor, and countless other great saints, is still the same God we serve. He will not only provide for us but we believe He will give exceedingly more than what we deserve.
One of the biggest obstacles I had about this mission trip was: "What message does God want us to give?" The great news is that God has prepared us with this message for almost a year now. A year ago in May 2019, God convicted our family to transition from serving at a church and start a home church with our family and train our children to be "Disciple Makers". Our goal for our family worship was to equip our children to be strong followers of Jesus and for them to model this in their own lives. We are truly amazed at what God has done in our children, who has caused such exponential spiritual growth and excitement in their hearts. Each member of our family has had the opportunity to teach and lead worship, giving scripturally sound and insightful messages. When we asked God what we should do when we visit people throughout our mission trip, He showed us that we have done in share the model of our family worship (praise & worship, giving the message, QT sharing and discussion, and prayer).
Another obstacle was finding a reliable vehicle to travel cross-country since our current van was giving us urgent signs that it needed to be replaced. By the grace of God, He quickly answered this prayer in March by helping us find a used newer model van with low mileage. The third obstacle is how God will provide during our travels. While reading the biography of George Muller, we were inspired by his life of prayer and immediate answers from God. He and his wife were convicted to start an orphanage, but they had no financial or material provisions. Amazingly, God not only provided for one orphanage but eventually answered George Muller's prayers with five orphanages. Trusting God is of the essence, and we have chosen to leave the finances up to God and believe that God will provide in His own way and His own time. God has already provided some online hospitality resources where we will be able to be housed and fed for free throughout each state, so God has already answered our prayers. As we prepare our hearts to go on this circuit ride to any who will open their door, we make ourselves available to whatever God has planned.
My friends, we are looking forward to seeing you and excited to worship with you! As we experience the greatness of God in action, we hope you will fall in love with Christ and be inspired to serve Him with all your heart.
