This report will be very brief so please make sure to read the book.
George Müller was studying to be a pastor like many of his peers. It was a respectable job that paid well. He didn't have to worry about money because his father had a good job and paid for all of his schooling. His father didn't know that George was usually drinking and gambling with his money and often times was borrowing money from others. George thought he was living the life, but then one of his friends that he would party with, suddenly came back in his life, but was different. George found out that his fellow college friend was involved with a group of people that had bible meetings. George right away started to mock him and told him how silly all that stuff is. George tried all he could to convince his friend to go with him to the bar, but instead his friend said he was going to this bible meeting where there was praise, reading of a pastor's sermon, and prayers. George thought it would be funny if he followed his friend to this meeting just to get a laugh. His friend resisted and really didn't want George to come but allowed George to tag along. Little did George know but that simple meeting changed his life. He went there and as they were singing songs he noticed people were genuine. He listened to the bible reading and the sermon that was read, but noticed that the person reading it was convicted those words were true. He left that meeting amazed of their genuine faith. He went back many times and eventually asked God to forgive his sins so he can be a true Christian. George became a new person after that. He stopped going to bars and gambling. He paid back all his debts and became an excellent student. George was growing in his new found faith in Jesus that he felt a calling to be a missionary. When he told his father about it, he immediately rejected that crazy idea. A pastor made a good income but a missionary was poor. His father reasoned that he spent all this money on George so he can have a good job, not to waste it on being poor for the rest of his life. George didn't see it that way and with determination, thought of a clever way that his father will accept and sign off on the paperwork. George went to his father and told him if he sign the paper for missionary school, then he will not take any more money from his father. As far as his father was concern, he didn't believe George could do this and would come back to him begging for his assistance. His father signed the paper knowing thinking in his heart that there is no way George can make it without him. George was excited but also very scared. He believed that God will provide but now the true test came. He prayed in his dorm simply pointing out to God that since He convicted George to follow in faith that he already had the provisions ready. Shortly after about an hour and a half, one of his professors came to his room with 4 Americans who were colleagues of the professor. His professor, knowing that George is fluent in German and American, to tutor these Americans for pay. George couldn't believe how fast God answered and to tutor all four of these men at the same time for 8 hours a week yet get 8 times the normal pay. George couldn't believe what he was hearing. The professor, before he left, said the orphanage close by the school always leaves a room available free of charge for a deserving student. The professor put George's name and God answered again. George now had everything for his college room and board. After he graduated, George was ready to go be a missionary, but he was not yet accepted. As George waited, he began to preach at a few churches. On one occasion, he preached to a small church of farmers and spent many hours preparing for this message. When he preached the message to them, he wasn't sure how the people reacted until he heard from them. Some of these simple farmers told George how fancy his message was but they couldn't understand anything he said. Everyone was very polite but George was disappointed that the message didn't have an impact on them. That really bothered him and didn't know what to do, because he was going to preach to these same farmers that evening. His second fancy message was already prepared, but he ended up throwing that out. He prayed and was convicted to give a simple easy so they could understand the message. He prayed, opened the bible, and God gave him the words. He didn't know what to expect, but as he was preaching he saw some people with tears. After the message some of the people told him that they have never had a pastor that gave a message that spoke to their hearts. They were touched and wanted him to come back. George realized also that these simple messages were not just for farmers but for everyone. Sure enough, wherever he preached, he received the same kind of reaction. He was amazed at the power of God's word in such simple messages. Later on, George met a special lady who had a brother and sister that were missionaries. She was 8 years older than George but that didn't stop him to marry her. He saw the incredible faith Mary had and also recognized that she also had the same heart to serve God. The adventures of the Müllers began. George and Mary lived a very very simple life. They didn't have much because they wanted to get ready to leave at anytime and anywhere God led them. At first, George was hired by a church and received a consistent salary but that all changed when God convicted George to address a problem at the church. Back then, people with the means could buy their seats towards the front of the church and that money will go to the pastors. George was bothered by that and said he will only be the pastor of this church if they eliminated this practice and allowed anyone to sit where they pleased. His church eventually agreed but now the Müllers had no salary. With no income, they now lived in uncertainty on how, what, and when God will provide. There were times when they had no food, but after praying, someone would stop by their house and give them something that God convicted them to give them. Through these events, George and Mary's faith grew. God always provided for them. George finally got the letter to be a missionary and they would support them fully. He and Mary were excited to finally do what they thought God wanted them to do, but as George was walking one day, he met a little girl that was carrying her little brother on her back. She looked at George and asked if he can spared some money. George asked her where her parents were and she told her that they both passed away. He was sadden by this sight because he saw many little kids without parents. It was a major problem and at that time no orphanages to help these kids. He gave her some money knowing that it would only help her for a day. He was bothered by this and knew that the mission field God called them was not abroad but here. He and Mary were already poor and barely taking care of their family, but knew something had to be done. He talked to the church and the word got around about starting an orphanage. Many people thought they were crazy and just couldn't believe this could happened. It would required a great deal of money, land, building, permits, furniture, on going supplies, and staff. The the only way this would be pulled off would have to be by a miracle. That's exactly what happened. God started to convict people and one by one God provided and the first orphanage was made. Eventually it was maxed out and they built another one and another, until they had 5 large buildings for more than 1,000 kids. During those time, George and Mary had their ups and downs. They had a son but he died at a young age. They had a daughter and she later married a wonderful man that eventually took over the orphanages. He had the same heart and faith as George so it was a perfect match. George's wife Mary and daughter died before him. George later remarried and eventually died at a surprising old age of 92. He was known throughout the world as the man with no means that started 5 orphanages. He was speaking all over the world and encouraging everyone to live by faith. When he finally passed away, the whole world mourned. Today those orphanages have turn into senior homes since the needs have changed. They still operate as George did, by faith.
