In 2 Samuel 10, King David’s fighting men found themselves surrounded by two opposing armies. So, David’s general, Joab, divided his forces and put his Brother in charge of half the men while he led the other group. They fought their own battle against on of the hostile armies. And this is what the two brothers agreed on: “if the Arameans are too strong for me, then you are to come to my rescue; but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to rescue you” (v. 11). Neither of them was truly alone in the fight, because if one of the brothers began to lose, the other would rush full force to his defense. That’s a pretty good strategy for us to use as well. In fighting our own battles, we should team up with family members and friends who are willing to share in our own combat.
