Associated with stable of Peter Pittendrigh at South Wylam in Northumberland, John Ebdale had a few rides over jumps in the early 1970s and had one win.
He finished fourth of five runners on his first ride on John’s Pride, being outpaced from the second last flight in the Croxdale Novices’ Hurdle (Division 2) at Sedgefield on November 3, 1971.
It was at the same course more than a year later that he had his sole success when Camillus was an easy winner of the Coxhoe Opportunity Selling Handicap Hurdle on January 22, 1973, berating Last Of The Moors by ten lengths. The seven-year-old had won on his previous start at the course on Boxing Day when ridden by Brian Fletcher. That turned out to be John’s last ride so at least he retired on a winning note.
