Andrew Elton

Article by Alan Trout

Andrew Kenneth Elton rode for Farnham, Surrey trainer Guy Bach in the late 1960s and early ’70s but rode just two winners over jumps.

Although granted a licence for the 1968/69 season, he had to wait until January 18, 1971, for the first of those wins, when Cinvultrist, owned and trained by Guy Bach, won the Nomad Novices’ Hurdle (Division 2) at Leicester by eight lengths. Cinvultrist was not winning out of turn, having been placed in his last five outings, partnered in all of them by Andrew.

He was back on board three weeks later when Cinvultrist followed up over the same course and distance on February 9, winning the Oadby Novices’ Hurdle (Division 1). This time the winning margin was 10 lengths.

A disappointing effort at Devon & Exeter followed – led from the fifth hurdle to three out, weakened, finished unplaced – and by the time Cinvultrist got back in the groove, winning five races during the 1972/73 season, Andrew had relinquished his licence.
