Research on Image Segmentation
Tuesday and Wednesday
This demonstration uses a mathematical model to select a region of a digital image. By using mathematics we can select a segment from within the image.
If we start with the first image above, we indicate the region that we want to keep
and the mathematics retains this region and blanks out all of the rest of the image
As part of the demonstration you will be asked to outline and select the required part of an image, and we will compare how well you select the region to how well the mathematical model selects the region.
These methods are used in applications such as medical imaging to isolate parts of an image such as an organ or a bone.
