Psychics

Psychic powers are a form of supernatural abilities that some humans are innately born with. While many might confuse such powers for magic, it is more accurate to say psychic powers are closer to the intrinsic powers of fey, jinn, dragons, horrors and other supernatural creatures. They are a part of the human psychic's metaphysical nature, a set of powers that are unique to them, shaped and developed over the course of their lives.

There's no way to predict what kinds of powers a psychic will be born with. Certain patterns do run within family lines, so, for example, if an elder sibling has photokinesis and can to conjure and control light, it's a safe bet that if their younger sibling has powers it will relate to light in some way--even if those powers are something like pyrokinesis or umbrakinesis, the manipulation of fire and darkness, respectively.

Psychics, much like supernatural creatures (but unlike baseline humans, including mages) have a large, innate reserve of anima they can draw upon to work their abilities. Furthermore, this blesses most psychics with health, swift healing, and an increased lifespan--at the cost of having the energies of creation thrumming through their bodies. Psychics can be a danger to themselves or others if they don't learn to control their powers at an early age, and psychics who lose control or suffer a mental breakdown can cause incredible damage.

Just like other supernatural creatures, a psychic can learn the arcane arts. However, learning magic is a gruelling process that can take years to master, while psychics already have access to their own set of occult powers--some that even skilled mages can't replicate. And so it's rare that any psychic actually attempts the path of the mage, when they can instead focus on developing their own metaphysical abilities in new, and sometimes unexpected, ways.
