UT Tournament Results

· Rene Otero, 2nd place in Foreign Extemp and 3rd place in Domestic Extemp, 7th Place individual sweeps

· Trey Gutierrez and Dylan Scott advanced to Quarterfinals in Policy Debate

· Bryce Hann and Sofia Valdespino, Quarterfinals in Public Forum

· Angelica Lechler and Eliana Galan, Double Octofinals in Public Forum

Churchill and American Legion

Sydney Stogel for placing first at both the local and area level of the American Legion Oratorical Contest. Sydney now advances to Regional competition later this month.

Additionally, students attended the Winston Churchill TOC Qualifying tournament last weekend where Rene Otero earned a bid to the Congress Tournament of Champions. Jenna Dammen and Rene also earned bids to the Extemp Tournament of Champions. Other individual results are as follows:

UIL District

Please join us in congratulating Juniors Trey Gutierrez and Dylan Scott who won the CX District Meet today and were named District Champions. They will represent Hendrickson at the UIL State CX Meet over Spring Break. This will be the boys' second trip to the State Meet in CX and this win represents Hendrickson's 9th District title.

Reagan Regionals

Please join us in congratulating Juniors Bryce Hann and Sydney Stogel who won 1st and 2nd respectively at the Greater Texas Regional Qualifying Meet and will now advance to the Ronald Reagan Great Communicator National Debate Tournament in July. This is the first year that Hendrickson has taken both of the Texas Regional slots. As a result if their success, both are guaranteed at least $1,500 in scholarship, with the potential of winning $10,000.


HARVARD

Please join us in congratulating members of the HHS Speech & Debate team who traveled to Harvard this past weekend. Junior Rene Otero took 2nd Place (he was actually in a tie for first that was broken by judges' preference) in Extemporaneous Speaking out if 223 students. As a result, Rene earns his 4th bid to the Tournament of Champions! Rene also advanced to Octofinals in Original Oratory.

Additionally, Junior Jenna Dammen advanced to the Quarterfinal round in Congressional Debate (in a field of over 500 students). Jenna earned a bid to the Debate TOC as a result. This is especially impressive, as Jenna is only in her second year if competing.

Finally, Juniors Sofia Valdespino and Bryce Hann ended in 17th place out of 371 Public Forum Teams and Juniors Trey Gutierrez and Dylan Scott ended in 17th as well, out of 104 CX teams.

13 Hendrickson students qualified - the largest number we have ever had in a single year.

The 3rd place finish is the best that Hendrickson has ever done in policy debate at TFA State!

UIL State CX Meet

Congrats to Juniors Trey Gutierrez and Dylan Scott, who won the title of 6A UIL State Policy Debate Champions over Spring Break! This title represents Hawk Debate's 5th UIL State Championship Title (Policy Debate in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018 and Persuasive Extemp in 2017).
