In 3952 BBY, years after their migration to the planet Alpheridies, the Miraluka colony world Katarr was attacked. It fell victim to Darth Nihilus who brought havoc to a Jedi convocation. Unfortunately, the planet was stripped of all life and rendered uninhabitable. During the Jedi Civil War, numerous Miraluka joined the Jedi Order and participated in the majority of their major battles. Miraluka commoners who had little-to-no experience in combat training also assisted, teaching others and taking on administrative positions. However, the number of Miralukans would face a catastrophic decline during the Jedi Purge, with thousands of them wiped out due to their affiliation with the Jedi Order. In turn, this inspired many surviving Miraluka into joining the Rebel Alliance. Those that were pressured into becoming spies for the Empire ended up in either of the following two situations: they fell to the Dark Side or destroyed themselves. By the time of the New Jedi Order, the Miraluka were spread far and wide throughout the galaxy due to the threat of the Yuuzhan Vong (a nomadic, brutal species that was undetectable by the Force). However, they began to rejoin galactic society once more.
Society and Culture: As previously stated, the Miraluka were a thoughtful, cautious, and deliberative species, having a negligible interest in conflict or personal gain. They covered their faces with blindfolds, masks, or similar concealing headwear due to social reasons. The Miraluka had an immense sense of unity, calling themselves “brothers” and treating each other as family. Being a Force-Sensitive species, they were known to be shocked and uncomfortable when presented with life that wasn't attuned to the Force, such as the Yuuzhan Vong. The majority of Miraluka worshipped two gods; the Ashla and Bogan, the Light and Dark sides. However, they had not seen or believed in them as good or evil; they were taught to accept both life and death.
Appearance and Biology: The Miraluka could easily be mistaken for humans, although they have two main factors that differentiate them. Firstly, they lacked eyes, only retaining the eye sockets. In response to this, they perceived the environment around them through the use of Force Sight, a variation of Force Sense. This allowed them to “see” the Force radiating off of an individual. Secondly, they had a shorter lifespan than humans, with the average Miralukan lifespan ranging up to 84 years old.
