Overview:

Description The Jedi Temple Guard were a security force maintained by the Jedi Order. They were tasked with protecting the Jedi Temple and its Detention Center on Coruscant. Temple Guards were Jedi Knights pulled from the ranks to become anonymous sentinels as part of their commitment to the Jedi Order. The Temple Guards were some of the best fighters the Jedi Order had to offer, sworn to protect the various Jedi temples to the end. The Temple Guard's mask and robes confer anonymity, and symbolize emotional detachment. During their service as a Temple Guard, they surrendered their identity and everything else. The only thing left is their commitment to the Jedi Order. 

History It is unknown when Jedi Temple Guards were officially deployed, but at least one Temple Guard was active during the Sith Wars, and fought in the Great Scourge of Malachor between circa 5000 BBY and circa 1032 BBY. In 382 BBY during the High Republic Era, several Temple Guards joined Jedi Master Ela Sutan and three other Jedi on a mission to the planet Dalna, home planet of the Path of the Open Hand. Sutan's team, including its compliment of Temple Guards, entered the cave systems beneath the Path compound, where they met heavy resistance and blasterfire from the cult members. During the Clone Wars, Jedi Temple Guards were led by Cin Drallig, and the Captain Kolloma Ree. Jedi Temple Guards assisted in the protection of the Temple during the Jedi Temple Bombing. Later on, Jedi Temple Guards assisted in making sure rogue Padawan Barriss Offee couldnt escape during her duel with Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. During Offee's trial, several Temple Guards escorted her. In 19 BBY, during Operation Knightfall and the Great Jedi Purge, many Temple Guards were cut down by a rogue Temple Guard, a pau'an male who betrayed the Order. Some Temple Guards escaped and ran away. The remaining Temple Guards still went back and killed the 501st in waves, making Darth Vader fight them directly. In the end, no Temple Guards remained and were dissolved in 19 BBY. 

Equipment The gear of a Temple Guard is not like many jedi. The Temple Guard several layers of armorweave to provide them with an effective defense against blaster bolts and lightsabers. Temple Guards also wore a mask, which contained a comlink and a scanner inside. They were armed with a yellow double bladed lightsaber, or a lightsaber pike.
