Form V, Djem So and Shien, is the fifth of the seven lightsaber forms we use as Jedi. The form is also known as the Way of the Krayt Dragon. Overall, Form V uses heavy power strikes with a mix of counterstrikes to overwhelm defensive opponents. Because of the heavy strikes, Form V takes a toll on the user's energy quicker. As for its history, Djem So was developed around the same time as Form IV, Ataru, when Jedi peace-keeping was more prominent.
Origin: Originally, Djem So was a mixture of Makashi's offensive style and Soresu's defensive style. It served as an in-between, utilizing the user's immense strength and power to tear enemies down. Historians determined Djem So originated sometime before 4,000 BBY, whereas the Shien variant was around the Jedi Civil War era.
Djem So: Djem So, one of the two variants of Form V, is quite offensive. It's typically practiced for its more offensive nature, though it still makes use of defensive measures. It makes use of parries, blocks, and powerful counter-slashes to defeat its opponent, unlike Soresu. Soresu stayed more defensive, primarily only fighting with counterattacks or deflection if the opponent is a blaster. When using Djem So, the counterattacks are lethal due to the accumulated power the user has concentrated during combat. A particular technique known as the "Fluid Riposte" consisted of a parry followed by a counterstrike. Like several lightsaber forms, Djem So draws upon the Force, enhancing one's ability and might. Additionally, a usage of Djem So is its pure offense aspect. Like the defensive aspect, this side of Djem So draws upon the Force,w increasing their strength and overall power.
Shien: Shien, also known as the Perseverance Form, is a variant of Form V designed to counter multiple opponents without losing the ability to initiate counterattacks. To one's surprise, the Sith have a counter-form, Sith Shien. Traditionally, Shien was held with both hands on the hilt, using the wielder's dominant leg for extra support. However, in some cases, Shien is retained in a firm reverse-grip, which allows for a vast range. The form is very effective against blaster fire, as well as melee combat. However, Shien's weakness is against a single opponent, which limits its usage.
