The Jedi Code’s strength and organization of the Order rested on the three core pillars. These three pillars consisted of the Force, Knowledge, and Self-Discipline. Without these three pillars, the known perception of what the Order stands for and fulfills would have ceased to exist.
The Force was the First Pillar, as it represented the constant between all things. The biological necessity that was the symbiotic relationship of midi-chlorians and sentient beings was the key to reveal one’s Force sensitivity. However, this wasn’t the primary focus for Jedi Studies. As an alternative to this, the Jedi chose to delve deeper with their understanding of the will of the Force while also being educated on the differences between each aspect: the Unifying Force, Living Force, Cosmic Force, and Physical Force.
The Second Pillar was the Pillar of Knowledge. It maintained the ideology that a Jedi would not fulfill their role in the Galaxy without intensely studying and accumulating wisdom over that time period. To facilitate this ideology, the Jedi Temple was equipped with a deep well of knowledge, which would later be named the Jedi Archives. However, the Archives and supplementary library were not the only sources of knowledge and wisdom that resided in the Jedi Temple. There were also several vaults, which were known to house the holocrons of the Order. This way, most of the questions asked would have an answer, whether in a holocron or the Archives.
Finally, the Third Pillar was the Pillar of Self-Discipline. The final test to prove one’s worth as a potential Jedi. Requiring mastery of the previous Pillars, self-discipline was vital to provide a Jedi with deeper insight. Learners of the third Pillar were heavily encouraged to be more precise and strict during meditation. They were required to neutralize and come to terms with their negative emotions within themselves before they would manifest into something more dangerous. Due to the necessity of controlling emotions, an Initiate could not wield a lightsaber before mastering the Third Pillar.
