One of the most iconic planets in Star Wars, Hoth was a remote world in the Hoth system. Its terrain was made of ice and snow and was most notable during the Galactic Civil War in 3 ABY. Hoth was primarily used by the Rebellion Alliance but lost its grip when the Galactic Empire invaded the system.
Description: The physicality of Hoth was not as simple, though. In the depths of the planet laid a molten metallic core and the surface consisted of a dichotomous crust. The planet's terrain consisted of a frozen ocean, with intricate volcanic openings scattered across the surface. Hoth's terrain also included snowy mountain ranges and ice shelves. Along with the sudden jets of water were also strong ocean currents. These currents beneath the southern hemisphere allowed for much seismic activity that affected Hoth's terrain. A unique fungus known as luni-spice was found hundreds of meters underground, close to the core. The isolated world had three moons bound to it and created a dense tidal pull. This force caused icy ocean water to spout in between the cracks in the several polar layers. As far as planetary location goes, Hoth was on the outskirts of the Ivax Nebula, which resided in the Anoat sector of the Greater Javin. The Great Javin was a specific region in the Outer Rim Territories and was part of the Ison Corridor. Nearing Hoth laid an immense asteroid field, which typically sent asteroids into the planet's surface. Due to the planetary position and axial tilt, Hoth never broke the pattern of frigid weather. This caused freezing temperatures and was even uninhabitable for most species. However, some species did manage to adapt, such as the wampas, tauntauns, and Hoth hogs (there are more, of course).
History: The history of Hoth dates back to the existence of the Infinite Empire. While there aren't any events known to the Jedi, Rakatan holographic artifacts were discovered in a cave system by a Jedi Consular. During the Galactic Cold War, the Jedi was searching for Esh-kha, a prison, but instead found coordinates to the planet Belsavis.
Old Republic: While the early civilization, the Infinite Empire, was thought to have discovered Hoth, it wasn't known to the Republic until around 4,000 BBY. The Republic and Sith Empire were at war, thus the Great Galactic War. A result was Hoth covered in scrap, caused by a vicious battle between both factions. A group of Ortolans even tried to colonize it following the battle, building thermal plants to provide heat in the freezing temperatures.
Galactic Civil War: Hoth was not touched again until the Rebellion Alliance rediscovered it, inhabiting and renovating the ex-Republic Echo Base. It became the main base of operations for the alliance and was thriving until a group of Imperial Probes sought them out, ultimately giving up their location. A great battle broke up, resulting in At-AT walkers and T-47 airspeeders making their appearance. Unfortunately, the Rebellion was driven out of the planet and was a victory for the Galactic Empire in 3 ABY.
