This is an easy Tahini Recipe and you will know 100% what its made from. Takes about 30 minutes of your time and much less expensive than buying ready-made.
Look for hulled sesame seeds. This Tahini when made can be kept in the fridge for a month.
1 140 g sesame seeds, hulled
8ml to 16ml neutral flavoured oil such light olive oil
TOAST SESAME SEEDS
Add sesame seeds to a pan over medium to low heat and toast gently, stirring constantly until the seeds become fragrant and very light colour, sesame seeds can burn quickly. then transfer to a baking sheet or large plate and cool completely to stop the browning.
Add sesame seeds to a food processor then process until it forms into a paste.
Add the oil slowly then turn on, stopping to scrape the bottom and sides of the food processor a couple of times. Check the tahini’s consistency. It should be smooth, not gritty and should be pourable. You may need to process more or add the additional light olive oil.
Taste the tahini for seasoning then add sea salt to taste. Process 5 to 10 seconds to mix it in.
You can store your tahini in a sealed jar kept in your fridge. You may notice it separates over time, as a natural peanut butter would. Just give it a good stir before using.
