He’s doing his chores, cutting down sugarcane, gently separating cactus leaves, and pulling up carrots. It’s been a while since he started, he’s sweating in the sun. He’s a little hungry and he’s done pulling all the carrots so he pulls out a chorus fruit.
He sinks his teeth into it, the juice is sweet and stains his mouth a slight purple. The sweetness hits his tongue as something in his stomach tenses. He takes a full bite and as soon as he swallows, the tenseness in his stomach snaps like a rubberband, flinging him in a direction he can’t walk in.
He lands solidly a foot away, right next to an azalea bush. His tail flicks around to stabilize him and his wings flutter to keep him upright, succeeding and seeing him wobble only a little bit. He swallows the juice in his mouth and waits for a little bit. Taking another bite immediately after the last isn’t something he wants to do. He’s never done it so he doesn’t know what would happen, but it’s something that’s an innate instinct.
As the small buzzing around him dies off, he raises the fruit for another bite. He pops the rest of the fruit into his mouth and bites down. Once again the rubber band snaps and he drops a foot away from where he was standing. He wipes his hand off on the rag he carries with him, staining the white with purple.
He takes a step on slightly wobbly legs and heads for the front of the castle. Most would be inconvenienced by eating chorus fruit for hunger. You don’t generally eat it as a food source, rather as a way to get out of a sticky situation. Teleporting is foreign to humans and other hybrids, so it’s very disorientating. But it’s comfortable to him. Being born of the void, teleporting is an instinct, but being a hybrid leaves him unable to.
He has the capability, but he can’t do it by himself. Chorus fruit works differently on him than it would anyone else. It takes his teleporting capabilities and forces them to work, it stretches the energy until it snaps him in the direction he can’t walk in. If he tries hard enough, he can aim himself in a vague direction, it’s easier when he’s in the end, the void providing a path for him to try to support himself.
For him teleporting is going in a direction that he can’t walk, other people can’t see the direction he goes but neither can he. It’s more of a feeling, just a fact of the universe than anything he can see. Teleporting with chorus fruit is like being tossed in that direction, but assisted by the void, in the end, is more like running down a hill. Mostly involuntarily moving but moving your legs helps you along, running with momentum.
It doesn’t mess him up that much, even in the overworld, just takes a little focus on his balance. So by the time he reaches his front door, he’s back on steady legs, tail raising again to swish in the air, rather than hanging low and swaying side to side. He steps in to complete the rest of his chores.
