“Roxy!”
She’s standing a little up the path. She looks so pretty in the moonlight, the light catches off of her jewellery, the stuff she gifted her. She looks like an angel like that, her angel.
She’s draped in a beautiful dress she had picked out for her, the excited squeal she got from her when she presented it was enough to kill her and send her to heaven. How else would an angel stand in front of her?
“Lilith!” Her eyes light up, her eyes look like diamonds set in her golden skin, a god in human form. The grin on her face reserved for her, and her alone.
“Hello, darling. Are you ready to go?”
She giggles, “Of course, my dearest.”
She holds her arm out for her. She links their arms immediately, used to the routine. She’s tucked up against her side, where she belongs. There’s nowhere else she belongs more than by her side. Except for when she breaks off to bound ahead, her eyes taken by some expensive thing in the shop windows.
She’ll sigh and pace after her, as she always does. She’ll duck into the shop after her, and take the things she’s gathered up, up to the counter. She’s cute, but they have places to be.
But for now, they haven’t made it out of the park yet. So she’s tucked against her side, arms linked. God, she’ll never get over how perfect she is, she’ll never get enough of her.
Her beloved Roxanne is quite taken by the stars, her head tipped back in almost child-like wonder. And in this light, she looks like she belongs among them. Every beam of light reflects off of her jewellery and her eyes, it looks as if she’s glowing, a divine light.
She spends the few minutes it takes to walk out of the park staring. How did she ever manage to deserve this? She has never been a considerably religious person, but this is nothing less than a religious experience.
They make it out of the park and the routine kicks in again. Roxy bounds ahead to pick out her favourites of each shop in the strip. Lilith can’t quite hide the fond look on her face each time she steps up to the counter. But eventually, they make it to the restaurant, right on time for their reservation.
She’s once again on her arm, being led to a table she picked out specifically for the view. The moon is in full view, the patio railings have majestic ivy crawling over them, and the best view is, of course, Roxanne.
She orders for both of them, half of the menu that she knows Roxy will love, and a few sweets to share. It’s very expensive, but she would give anything for Roxy. A dinner like this, once a week, isn’t going to make a dent in her bank account. Daddy’s money comes in handy for drowning Roxy in gifts. The only good thing he ever did.
And maybe she can’t help herself when she finds herself spooning some complicated dessert into Roxy’s mouth. She brushes her hair out of her face, the bouncing around the shops disturbed her intricate braids. She is the picture of perfection, and Lilith is defenceless against her. Maybe Lilith is the definition of lovestruck.
When she leans in for a kiss, she tastes like sugar and stardust. Her skin is soft underneath her hand, chin tilted up into her embrace. Her hair falls around her face like a halo, shiny baubles like an offering to her divinity.
She has to lean away eventually, when all of her breath has been stolen from her. It’s a devastating loss, the cruel reality that she cannot live life in her lover’s sweet kiss. She would give up breathing to live like that, she has already surrendered her life to her.
But she has to pull away, gets to assuage her desires by looking at her lover’s sweet face. The droopy eyes that are still a little awestruck, as if she can’t believe that they are together at last. The almost lost look on her face as they pull away from each other.
It’s almost impossible to return to eating after that. But they get the hang of it eventually, Roxy loves eating expensive food and Lilith loves watching her eat expensive food. The moon is high in the sky by the time they are back to normal, no more longing to stay wrapped up in each other embrace for eternity.
Eventually, Roxy finishes her food and the night is coming to a close. Lilith will have to call for the bill and then they’ll have to walk to Roxanne’s penthouse and part ways. This is not forever, and by god does it break her heart.
But for now, before all of that happens, Lilith retrieves a box from her jacket. When she opens it, the inside is lined with deep burgundy velvet. A sparkling necklace sits inside, the pendant so delicate and beautiful. Like Roxy.
She offers it to Roxanne, and she squeals over it, just as was expected. Even after all this time, she still lives for the sounds she makes when given a gift. Lilith wants this to be forever. For now, this is enough.
She drapes it over her neck, doing the clasp blind, staring into her eyes. She leans in for another kiss.
It feels like forever.
