“I don’t understand how you look at me like you do.” His voice wavers. His eyes well up with tears and they are struck with the urge to wipe them away. Such an expression should never be on his face.
It is a travesty and an act against god for him to be sad. They cannot prevent every instance but at this moment they can. Their heart aches for him and always has.
“I don’t know how I look at you, but just know that I think you deserve the world. You are a gift from the gods and I cherish every moment I get to stay with you.” Just to drive the point home they pull his face into their hands. There is no way he can deny their words when he is staring them straight in the eyes.
Their eyes are an impossible shade, just as impossible as the amount of love they hold in them. The light might hit their eyes enough to dilate them, or maybe he just doesn’t want to think of how much they love him.
His eyes are a shade similar to theirs. They are darker and hold the weight of his life within them. They are wide and teary. There is nothing in this life or any others that could stop them from wanting to soothe him.
They can’t heal the hurt that he feels or soothe the rage that hurts him, but they can be there. They can wash his scratches when he grasps at his hair. They can cut his nails every time they come over. They can make sure that he eats, that he sleeps, that he is okay.
He can never understand what they feel when they pray or feel the peace that they do when they meditate. But he can appreciate them, and be in awe as they understand their place in the world. He can call them when he feels particularly bad and let their voice wash over him.
The two of them can love each other and that is enough. It is enough for both of them to feel secure and safe. It is enough for them to sit together for hours, and it is enough to rest their foreheads together and relax as they let everything they love about each other remind them just why life is worth living.
It is enough to love and be loved.
