CW: Minor Violence, Attempted Mugging, Religion
When she decided to move, she was a little worried. This is a nature god’s domain, why would Perlais keep watch over her here? But of course, it doesn’t work like that. She’ll be there to watch over her for the rest of her days, mother of children and all that. No matter how far inland she moves, the sea will always be with her.
Now to see if she still has her blessing. She doesn’t want to assume Perlais would still bless her when she’s so far away from the sea, when she ran away from her. Undoubtedly these small-time criminals wouldn’t have a blessing. Mundstain is a large city, their god would have no reason to be handing out blessings.
She backs up against the wall, not fully but enough that the wall has her back. She isn’t the best fighter ever, but she’s up there, she thinks. The two people trying to mug her with a knife circle around to her direct front. This is entirely too amateur for her to lose this, they’re hesitating and playing into her movements instead of just stabbing her. They aren’t even trying to crowd her, the guy with the knife is in front of the other guy. If she loses, her pride will never recover from it.
So she refuses to lose. She darts forwards and sweeps the guy with the knife’s legs out from under him. As he falls she brings her other knee up as soon as she’s both feet on the ground and slams it into his face as he falls. The fucker doesn’t even try to hit her with the knife and just lets it happen. Gods, this isn’t even a fight, barely self-defence, it’s just pathetic.
The other guy steps back as he hits the floor with a small crack. He looks like he’s about to run but she won’t let him. What if it has been anyone else? She won’t let that stand. He takes another step backwards and she strikes.
She leaps for him and decks him in the jaw. He stumbles backwards and she very pointedly doesn’t sweep his legs from under him as he goes down on his own. She leaves him conscious because she doesn’t want to accidentally bash his head in with her steel-toed boots.
And because she’s a little bit vindictive, she takes the knife and the money from the guy with the knife. The worst kind of criminal is the kind that drags others down with them. By the way the other guy is just watching her take his shit, that’s the kind of criminal he is.
She walks off after tossing a twenty to the guy. She still doesn’t know whether she’s blessed or not, that was barely a fight. She’s a little irritated by that, so she might go out searching for trouble later just to check. But for now, she heads home, all of the money in her wallet still firmly secured.
She was worried about living in a big city earlier, but if those two were any indication, she’ll be just fine blessing or not. That doesn’t solve the problem of possibly disappointing Perlais, but at least she knows she’ll be fine.
