I found you lain in the stars,
Wrapped in the cosmos.
I was dreaming when I saw you,
The memory of your face eluded me,
Still, the serenity set in.
When I saw you next I couldn’t remember,
You were a stranger,
Features too sharp to recognize,
I walked by.
The memories of my dreams we unattainable,
I hardly slept at all.
But when I did,
the vastness of the universe filled my dreams,
Constellations stretched far beyond my sight,
Reaching arms that could never touch the stars.
I was unaware of my dreams for the longest of times,
I would remember bits and pieces,
But never the full thing.
I wonder if I truly wish to remember,
If I truly wish to dream.
The vastness of the universe,
Once calm and comforting,
Now cold and empty.
Reaching arms can never reach the stars,
They are beyond our grasp,
What is the universe if not impartial?
Now my dreams are filled with things I can’t reach,
Things I will never have,
Feelings I will never feel.
They aren’t nightmares,
I almost wish they were.
The longing grows stronger with the days,
As the wind grows colder,
As my heart continues to break,
With every message ignored.
My heart grows something inside it,
Something that writhes every time I am ignored,
Every time I say the wrong thing,
And ever time I dare to think myself worthy of anything.
Why can’t I go back to looking at the stars?
Why can’t I see their beauty once more?
Why can I only see the distance,
The vastness,
The cold,
And emptiness.
