Modeling Your Brain

Modeling is a fantastic scientific method to use as you investigate and learn a new topic - especially when learning about anatomy. This week, we will create mini models of our brains and label them with the names of the various parts (lobes) and what each part is responsible for. You can keep your brain model as a reminder of all of the memories you are making as you learn each day.

What Are The Parts of the Brain?

The human brain is split into 3 main sections: The Cerebrum, the Cerebellum, and the Brain Stem. The Cerebrum (the large part of our brain), is divided into four main lobes. Watch these two videos to learn more about each part of the brain, and the kinds of information it processes and stores.

Just Want To Read About The Brain?

Remember, this is a handy website that summarizes the parts of the brain, and the major functions of each section.

Task: Brain Modeling

In this week's activity, we will work to complete a small model of the brain.

For this, you will need a small pack of model magic clay, or you can make your own modeling dough at home by following these instructions

Once you have created your mini model, use a set of toothpicks and small post its to label the main areas of the brain. You should include a label for the following sections:

If you have space on your little post it label, you can also include some of the things that happen in each of these lobes.

Vocabulary Discovery

An important part of learning new topics in science is listening for and noting new vocabulary terms. Please use this sheet as reference to write down any new words you have not heard before. A copy of this sheet will be on each one of our pages for you to download and print. You can fill it out on paper or in your OneNote notebook.
