3.2 Tinkercad

Tinkercad is one of our favorite tools in the Lab; we have taught lessons all the way down to PreK using this awesome 3D visualization and construction tool. Tinkercad is a great way to begin to use a computer at a younger age (it's designed for kids) and is friendly on both an iPad (via App) or desktop computer, but works best at a desktop when using a separate handheld mouse.

This tool allows powerful visualization of an object in three dimensions, allowing you to use drag-and-drop shapes or draw your own to create a new shape or design. With the navigation tools, you are able to visualize all sides of your object that we would not otherwise be able to do when drawing on paper. Above, you can see some of the designs our students have made, whether working through the free tinkercad tutorials, designing a little robot/guy, or designing habitat blueprints for their 1st grade World of Wildlife project.

Once you complete your design, export it as an .stl to share with makerspace@hawken.edu. We will reach out and set up a time to discuss with you if it will be possible to 3D print your design!
