The Songwo are one of Osma's ethnic groups. The sole predominantly Nyrellan group in the country, they make their home in the center of the nation, and are most well known for their king's failed attempt to establish a Nyrellan monarchy during the Grand Coronation. Because of this, the other four ethnic groups of the nation purposefully excluded them from the rotating monarchy they later established. Their lands were divided amongst the four, so while they remained in the center of Osma, they were always under the jurisdiction of one of the four predominant ethnic groups.
Around the year 1000, when the nation's unstable political system threatened to tear it apart, Magianan Emperor Gregory Magis met with the nation's leadership, in hopes of establishing a lasting peace. At the center of his plan were the Songwo people, with their homeland being in the nation's center, acting as a symbol of national unity for those living in the north, south, east, and west.
Their lands were restored to them, officially being organized into Songwo Province, where the nation's new capital of Amabula was built.
The fact that the Songwo people and the majority of the Magianan Empire's population share a religion remains a source of controversy, with some speculating that Magis's intervention was specifically to cement the nation's power in the region most friendly to his empire and its interests.
