The Three Pillars are a core concept in Nyrellan, Wayfarer, and Roma belief. All living things are composed of three things: a body, mind, and soul.
The body is one’s physical vessel.
The mind, in a sense, is oneʻs brain.
The soul is effectively one's personality, making them who they are.
Only when all three are one is a being whole.
A being with a body and mind, but no soul is a Husk. They have lost their being, and are little more than an automaton whose only objective is to keep their body alive.
A being with a body and a soul, but no mind is dead. The mind is what gives the body many of the instructions allowing it to function, so without a mind, one’s body will simply waste away.
A being with a soul and a mind, but no body is a ghost. Upon death, those with especially strong attachments do not move on. Their soul and mind remain as one, kept on Unios by their attachments or regrets, bound to the location of their death. They can become summon spirits upon making contracts.
A body alone is simply a corpse.
A mind alone is pure aer.
A soul alone is a ghoul. Ghouls, like ghosts, are born when someone dies with strong attachments. However, their attachments were unconscious. Their souls do not move on, but lack the mind to understand why. They are often hostile and aimlessly wander. Stories about violent hauntings are almost always about Ghouls.
