The Drachkin are a people who live on Unios alongside humans and elves. They once possess the ability to turn into dragons, but as time went on and they bred with humans and elves more and more, they lost that power.
Drachkin once looked nothing like humans, but more like anthropomorphized dragons. This appearance of their ancestors is where the name of their race comes from, translating to "dragonkin." The final stage of development of the drachkin then was that of dragons. The first dragons were drachkin. Any progeny born after this transformation are simply dragons.
As they bred with humans and elves, they lost more and more of their scales, becoming much more humanoid in their appearance. They no longer become dragons at the end of their lives, as well.
Drachkin have reptilian features, like some scales, fangs, and claw-like nails. The color of their scales can vary greatly. They have pointed ears and some of them have slit-like pupils. They are a mostly peaceful people, only really resorting to violence when absolutely necessary.
Drachkin are only able to use one of the four core elements: fire, water, earth, or wind. The element they’re able to use is dependent on the tribe they’re born into, named after the Elements. In the drakoni language, those four are fyr vyr, aqui vyr, terra vyr, and silf vyr. In addition to the element of magic they can use, a drachkin’s scale color and the build of their dragon forms are determined by their tribe.
Drachkin of mixed tribe are capable of using both elements of magic, though both are usually weaker than if they were pure of blood.
Drachkin of mixed race are able to use more than their single element of magic, though the one associated with their drakoni parent’s tribe is a clear affinity. Half elven drachkin don’t need to use manite, but usually overexert their aer cortexes more quickly than a full blooded elf. Half human drachkin are more prone to breaking manite when casting, unless its element aligns with their own.
