In traditionally animist Gibroar, people don’t typically have surnames, instead being identified by their parents, as a way to honor them.
Someone’s full, legal name could be: <FirstName> <son/daughter> <Father> <and> <Mother>
The personal name for day to day use only uses the name of the parent whose sex matches the child. Outside of Gibroar, the word for “son” or “daughter” is dropped. Alternatively, some sort of ancestral title can be used as a surname instead.
Here’s an example.
Legal name: Zariah isa Abdul yn Zara (Female); Abdul isn Amir yn Fatma (Male)
Personal name: Zariah isa Zara; Abdul isn Amir
Foreign name: Zariah Zara; Abdul Amir
Foreign title name: Zariah Nassar, a descendant of “Nassar, Faro isn Asad”
In Yespela, the same convention is followed.
