TAY Yu Xun

I'm a final-year Environmental Science undergraduate who loves to learn the ever-evolving complexities of our local marine life. My interest in marine ecology really took root during an undergraduate research project, where I studied the cryptic invertebrates living across Singapore's reef depth gradients. Along the way, I've been lucky to gain exposure to different facets of conservation, from coordinating citizen science surveys with NParks and supporting ground-up initiatives at Ocean Purpose Project, to exploring coastal spatial modeling during an exchange semester at Wageningen University. Spending time underwater also continually reminds me how much there still is to observe and protect in our own backyard. For my FYP, I would be focusing on hyposalinity and rainfall effects on local corals, and I hope to contribute some small, useful insights towards our understanding of how reef communities cope with freshwater stress in heavily urbanized coastal waters.
