My fascination with marine life began with David Attenborough’s documentaries, which inspired my dream of becoming a marine biologist. I have always been passionate about exploring and understanding marine megafauna and the underwater world. After obtaining my scuba diving certification, I gained a deeper appreciation of coral reef ecosystems and became more aware of the threats they face. This experience strengthened my desire to contribute to the conservation and protection of our marine environments, including the coral reefs we have in Singapore and the region. For my Final Year Project, I am exploring how sponges can be used to enhance the ecosystem services provided by seawalls, particularly through their natural filtration of Singapore’s coastal waters.
Coral restoration, ecological interactions, behavioural ecology, sharks!
