I am a Y4 Life Science undergraduate, passionate about the land and sea and anything between! I have a fascination for wildlife since young from watching many wildlife and underwater documentaries. I really enjoy being out in the field doing surveys and experiments. Since secondary school doing ecotoxicology experiment under NParks/NIE, aquaculture and animal husbandry in Republic Polytechnic, freshwater crab restoration in NParks, docent and citizen scientist with Oceanarium, and doing ecological surveys with Camphora, I developed a strong love of appreciation for nature and wanting to share it with peers through science communication. By bringing my peers into nature, they now know and appreciate the beauty of the biodiversity that exists. In the recent two years I delved deeper into the marine world through SCUBA diving and underwater photography, helping out with coral restoration works in Les Village (North Bali, Indonesia) and dive cleanups in Singapore! I want to do more to conserve the marine habitats that we still have in Singapore in some capacity.
For my FYP, I will be experimenting various ways to promote sporulation of Crustose Coralline Algae (CCA) tetraspores, and to investigate which texture of concrete disk encourage settling and development of CCA spores ex-situ, to enhance CCA propagation for possible in-situ application on seawall transplantation. CCA are known to attract natural settlement of coral larvae on substrate, hence a possible coral restoration tool.
