Some people have asked me why I wanted to do research on Marine Biology. All I can say is that the famous Marine Biologist George Costanza was a great inspiration for me. Ever since I saw him rescue a beached whale on TV, I have told myself this is what I wanted to do as well, saving cute marine animals. Although having gone through a UROPS, I have come to realised that most of the work marine biologist do, do not directly involve saving animals, in fact killing them seems to be much more common. Nonetheless, I wish that the work I do, the papers I hope to eventually publish, along with the countless of other published papers by other great scientists, will help better inform policy makers to implement policies that can lead to more animals being saved. May their deaths not be in vain.
