3. Social Emotional learning (SEL)

Mental health represents the cognitive, emotional, and social well-being of humans. How do people think, behave and communicate socially?. Experiencing violence, conflict, abuse, and stress affects mental health and can also negatively impact the daily activities, relationships, and physical health of students (Felman, 2020).

An essential responsibility of instructors and principals is to be aware of students’ mental health well-being and assist students who need psychological and psychosocial support. In schools, students mostly suffered from violence, conflicts, abuse, etc. which causes them to lose their self-esteem and confidence.

In different countries according to the various factors of context, resources, and geographical areas, a variety of supports are provided to the learners who suffer from mental health problems. For instance, in some countries, mental health centers are available in schools to provide support to children. In most developed countries the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Psychosocial Support (PSS) are integrated with schools’ curricula to measure and enhance students’ as well as teachers’ well-being because mental health is critical to the learning quality of students (INEE, 2018). Inter-Agency for Education in an emergency also explains that mental health and psychosocial support programs are the activities that require the very least cost, but the impact is enormous on the people who need them. Especially, if these resources are present before a disaster strikes. Mental health problems adversely impacted the future life outcome of students and their academic performance by increasing their depression, and isolation, and demotivating them to attend school.
