Kathleen Banks

Kathleen Banks is an artist from Northern Utah who works with a variety of mediums including acrylic paint, watercolor, pen and ink, and collage. Her work incorporates portraiture, landscapes, objects and memories to study surfaces and textures, as well as change, cycles, growth and perspective. This work titled “That music always within me, unceasing” uses pen and ink drawings with GIF animation to express how quickly things change and that even the most unlikely objects have commonalities. The title of the work is a play on the titular first line of a poem by Walt Whitman. By examining these ideas through a GIF, the work becomes dynamic and emphasizes the metamorphosis from the cold hard metal of a French horn to the soft tissue of the human digestive system, with a focus on the shapes and lines that remain constant in both images. Kathleen is currently a student at Utah Valley University in the Art and Design program. She plans to continue creating art that reflects her life experience, values, and humor.
