Cheska Banez is an artist from Chicago, Illinois who works across pencil and oil painting. In this work, she experiments with digital art to describe how she dealt with the pressures and hardships of 2020. Her work uses the imagery of free falling into boiling water to express her feelings about failure. By exploring these ideas through a stop-motion animation, the work becomes viewed through the perspective of dealing with disappointment after facing defeat despite being willing to accept difficult challenges. Cheska Banez is a student at Utah Valley University studying Art & Design who graduates in May 2021. She hopes to continue building her portfolio and getting more experience in teaching to prepare for a Master’s in Art Education.
