FAQ for New Collectors

Q: Does a certain movie have a code?

A: Check the "Where Does Digital Redeem" Spreadsheet from The Dean first

Q: Does it port?

A: In order for a movie to port between iTunes, Vudu, Amazon, Microsoft, Google Play, etc. it must be a Movies Anywhere movie. Check Zu's Movies Anywhere sheet This will give you the best idea if something is going to port or not. You can also look for the MA logo on Vudu and Google Play, go to www.moviesanywhere.com and search for the movie, clicking through the providers to purchase. But the hidden movies that still port will be on Zu's google sheet

Q: Where does it redeem 4K?

A: Check the 4K sheet. www.4ksheet.com This is constantly changing. Do not redeem a movie without checking the sheet. See 4K Sheet Help under Misc Resources for more info on how to use it.

Q: What is a split code? A multi-redeem code? A full code?

A: Some digital codes can be redeemed multiple times.  Check the Redemption/Verification information under Misc Resources. Order does not usually matter. A full code means you are buying the code exactly as it came with the disc, no other portion has been redeemed.

Q: How do I track my collection? What if I think I have a movie missing?

A: There are a few options, everything is laid out on the Collection Tracking pages on this site: https://sites.google.com/view/digitalmovieresources/collection-tracking

Q: Should I redeem on Movies Anywhere or Vudu/FN?

A: You really should be redeeming on a provider over Movies Anywhere. This will give you a permanent copy on that provider as well as always port it into Movies Anywhere. But then if something happens, you will always have that copy on the provider. If you need a new Movies Anywhere Account for some reason, if that transaction disappears (it happens) that movie is gone. It's just "safer" in general to redeem on a provider so I always recommend to pick your favorite provider and redeem there. First, always checking the 4K sheet though to make sure it does redeem 4K there. Movies Anywhere should be the last place you redeem if there is no other option.

Q: How do I redeem this?

A: Check the information here: https://sites.google.com/view/digitalmovieresources/misc-resources/redemptionverification-of-digital-codes/how-to-redeem-a-digital-code

To redeem iTunes on an android device use the Apple Music App https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apple.android.music&hl=en_US Once downloaded to go Account, Redeem Gift Card or Code. UPDATE: This was taken off the most recent updates. To get it back download this apk: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/apple-inc/apple-music/apple-music-3-6-0-beta-release/

Q: What is Movies Anywhere?

A: Movies Anywhere is a locker system that will port your movies between Vudu, iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, Microsoft, DirecTV & Xfinity. You must connect your accounts at www.moviesanywhere.com Only movies that are MA will port between providers. Search on MA to determine if a movie will port and use the Movies Anywhere list from Zu linked in the Spreadsheets.

Q: What is Disney Movie Insiders?

A: Previously known as DMR/Disney Movie Rewards. https://www.disneymovieinsiders.com/  You can redeem points from Disney Movies to earn rewards. As of 2/7/20 you can link your DMI to MA and receive points for purchases at providers from this list: https://moviesanywhere.com/collection/disney-movie-insiders (Not all movies give points, check the list) Direct MA redeems will also redeem points if the points are still good. If you redeem at a provider (Vudu, etc) you will have to go to DMI to redeem your points.

Q: What is D2D?

A: D2D is Vudu's Disc-to-digital program. https://www.vudu.com/content/in_home_disc_to_digital.html You can use your discs you own to convert them to digital copies. There is now one way to do this as of 1/1/20 (MD2D).

MD2D or Mobile D2D. You will use a browser on your iOS phone or the Vudu app on your Android phone to scan the back of your discs you own (the UPC) and convert them to digital copies.  There is a limit of 100 per year with this type of D2D.

Use www.d2dsheet.com to determine what is eligible.

Prior to 1/1/20 there was also D2D using Vudu to Go (In-Home D2D). You used a computer to download their app and put your discs in your BR drive or DVD drive to convert. There was no limit on this type of D2D.

Q: What is Instawatch? (retired)

A: Instawatch is when you buy a disc from Walmart, Vudu will give you a digital copy of the movie as well. Check the IW sheet to determine what is eligible. The Walmart site or stickers at the store are not reliable on what actually gives IW.

When you buy an eligible title at Walmart with either deposit it into your linked Vudu account or send you a link to redeem the movie into your Vudu account. Once you have linked your Vudu and Walmart account there is no way to unlink it. You must be linked to receive an IW copy as of 7/1/2020.

When you buy a disc at the store, use Walmart pay/the Walmart app to receive your IW copy.

If a movie that had Instawatch is returned to Walmart, the digital copy will be pulled from your Vudu account or you will be charged full Vudu price for the movie.

https://www.vudu.com/instawatch

If you buy a DVD the IW should be SD. If you buy a 4K Blu-ray or a Blu-ray the IW should be 4K or HD depending on what is eligible.

A: What is Disc+Digital (retired)

Q: As of May 2020 this is no longer a supported Vudu program. Disc + Digital is when you buy the disc and digital copy directly on Vudu. https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/collection/content/Disc-Digital/23604  You will immediately get a digital copy and a the disc will be shipped to you from Walmart.com Shipping charges will apply if the title is not a pre-order. Shipping is waved for pre-orders. (This is a great way to get 4K discs and a UHD digital copy. Plus usually another 4K digital copy in the disc when it is shipped)

Q: What is Ultraviolet?

A: Ultraviolet closed on 7/31/19. I will leave this info here for historic sake, but no longer applicable.

https://www.myuv.com/faq

Ultraviolet is a locker system that will port movies between Vudu, FandangoNow , Kaleidescape, Verizon FIOS and Flixster (for foreign accounts). www.myuv.com To determine if a movie is UV sign out of the provider and look for the UV symbol. 4K movies do not follow this rule, check the 4K sheet to determine what is UV.

UV movies will port to MA through Vudu if they are both MA and UV, not through FandangoNow. For example, say you redeemed Superman UHD on Flixster. It will port into FN, but not to MA through FN. However, since Vudu has it in UHD it will port into Vudu (since it is UV) and then to MA. From MA it will port to your other providers (iTunes, etc).  Confused yet? Vudu is the only provider that will port UV movies to MA as long as your UV account is connected.

Here is a graph on how 4K purchases/code redeems port through UV and MA. HD/SD will do the same
