Suis-je un Louis ? Comment savoir ! is a party game in which you will have to ask yes/no questions in order to discover who you are among the famous personalities from French History present on the game board. Use your wits and a good strategy because you have to guess who you are before your opponents!

The Culture:

“Am I a Louis?” captures an important part of the culture of France: its history. By highlighting different categories of notable people, players are exposed to the elements of French history that made France, France. From seeing the number of well-known artists who were born in France to the historical figures who made the country what it is today (thanks, Jeanne!), students will be able to glean a glimpse of the breadth and breadth depth of the French contribution to the world and the pillars of France's cultural priorities.


France is an old country that has experienced countless cultural changes. “Am I a Louis?” offers digestible biographies of people across the ages, from the Crusades to the pre-French Revolution to World War II to the present day, who ushered in each of these transformations. By understanding the framework of French history and the notable figures who played key roles in its writing, students can better understand how today's France came to exist and what elements of history have shaped its culture. The French love of art, science, sports, fashion and music is highlighted in this game with the context that helps with the creation of this love.


The Language:

Cognitively, “Am I a Louis?” speaks to the power of deduction. Linguistically, players ask specific questions that mostly revolve around useful everyday language, such as timelines, hair color, and broad cultural categories. But what they really practice is problem solving and their understanding of approaching the discussion of identity in a new language. Identity is a broad subject: adapting and discussing identity in an accessible way by level is a skill. Knowing how to describe yourself, your interests, and those of other people is a big step in the process that leads to meaningful conversations with other people.



In The Classroom:

« Suis-je un Louis ? » can be made simpler or more complicated depending on the questions students ask.


For Lower Level Students:

Questions can revolve around category, male-female, first name-last name, etc. All of these questions contain simple vocabulary and help students learn how to structure a question.


For Intermediate Students:

Questions can be raised to revolve around physical appearance and dates. This allows students to bring more specific language and information that is still relevant to everyday conversation.


For Advanced Students:

Questions can revolve around specific biographical information, so they get used to talking about detailed accomplishments or interests that use specialized vocabulary.
