About This Work

Welcome to Games 4 French, an archive of student-created French games!

Games and play are a fantastic way to learn in general and to learn a language in particular. This site is the ongoing materialization of years of work with many adventurous, creative, and generous students and student-teachers who have measured the potential of games for French learning and the importance of playful learning in language education. Within the context of a course entitled “Jeux de culture et culture du jeu” (which could be roughly translated as “Games of culture and gaming culture”) students designed games to be used by K-16 teachers of French to facilitate, enhance or otherwise augment French learning (see pedagogical guides in each game).

All games hosted on Games 4 French are free to download (print and play), use, and, more importantly enjoy. We just hope that you follow the guidelines. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or, even better, constructive feedback. Some of these games are also available for purchase from the Game Crafter.

The list of teammates to thank is too long to be detailed here (I tried to do it justice in the acknowledgements below). I will be forever grateful for the many students who have trusted the process and contributed their creativity, talents, and skills to this work. More than that, they have demonstrated a knack for collaboration and limitless amounts of intellectual and human generosity. I could not have done this without you. Thank you!

Special thanks to Cary Staples for being there at the onset of my thinking on this and to Sabrina Culyba for helping design - and co-teach - the course and for having the idea for this site. Special thanks to Erin Choi for making it happen.

Ludiquement vôtre
