Honorlock provides on-demand online exam proctoring services for schools and universities. Honorlock monitors students to hinder cheating and maintain academic integrity in online or hybrid classes.

How It Works:  Honorlock can be used to monitor online exams.  Students' webcams record them during the test.  Honorlock's AI technology monitors the session and triggers a warning if it senses something is wrong.

On Tuesday, September 1st, Honorlock will be releasing an update for the following: Version 11.8.0 (Web App), 2.1.0 (HonorPrep), 1.5.1 (Elements), 1.5.1 (Integration SDK JS). We wanted to bring to your attention a few notable changes included in this release:

Workspace Scan is now the primary environment check. Room Scan Video is being sunset. As of this release Workspace Scan is the standard step for nearly every institution, and the small number that opted out of adoption for the Fall will see a discontinuation notice in their exam settings. Two things are worth knowing about why we made this the default:

It produces better results. Institutions using Workspace Scan are seeing half as many non-compliant scans as they did with Room Scan Video. Every test taker completes the same step the same way, so there are fewer sessions that need a second look and less variation for reviewers to interpret.

You do not lose the video. The front-facing camera records throughout the Workspace Scan photo step. You get the high-resolution workspace photo and a video of the test taker completing the scan, including anything happening behind or around them while they do it. Workspace Scan gives you both, not one in place of the other.

HonorPrep now prepares test takers for Workspace Scan. With Workspace Scan as the primary check, HonorPrep has been updated to match. All Room Scan steps, copy, and media in the student-facing authentication walkthrough have been replaced with Workspace Scan content written for the assessment context. Test takers who complete HonorPrep now practice the exact steps they will meet on exam day.

Faster session review, cleaner exam setup. In the Session Viewer, clicking anywhere on an event row jumps straight to that moment in the recording, and hovering shows the real session time. A new Flag filter narrows the timeline to the flag types you care about, and tighter spacing fits more of the session on screen, so reviews take less scrolling and fewer clicks.

In the LTI, exam lists use updated fields and buttons with one clear primary action per row, making it quicker to enable and configure an exam.

Enhancements & Fixes

Exam Profiles now apply Environment Integrity and Enhanced Desktop Security. Applying a profile with either setting enabled left the corresponding toggles off on the exam. Profiles now update those settings as expected.

Side-Angle Camera more accurately detects internal cameras. Several built-in laptop and desktop cameras were passing the external camera check, which let test takers start a side-angle exam without an external camera. Those cameras are now identified correctly, and test takers see the "No External Camera Found" guidance before starting.

Clearer messaging for an out-of-date extension. When a test taker launched an exam with an outdated Honorlock extension, the extension was removed but the error screen did not appear, allowing the test taker to continue. The out-of-date screen now displays immediately.

Session Viewer header no longer distorts with long names. Long test taker names and long course or exam titles pushed against the header controls, especially at narrower widths and with the side panel open. Those values now truncate, and hovering a truncated value shows the full text.

Accurate Room Scan records when Workspace Scan falls back. For institutions with both the Mobile App and Workspace Scan enabled, a test taker who used the desktop fallback and then chose Room Scan created a mislabeled record that would not play in the Session Viewer. Recordings are now saved with the correct type and play as expected.

Integration SDK type definitions fixed for partners. The published TypeScript declarations for the JavaScript SDK pointed to a path the build no longer produced, and three empty test files were being included in the package. Both are corrected in v1.5.1. Partners using TypeScript will get accurate autocomplete and type checking against the SDK's public API. No SDK behavior changes.

Room Scan Video discontinuation notice. For the small number of institutions that opted out of Workspace Scan adoption for the Fall, the Room Scan option in exam settings is now labeled Room Scan Video and carries a notice that it will be discontinued on December 31, 2026. Contact your CSM to plan the transition.
