Can I merge two sessions on Panopto?

Merging allows Creators to take all content from one session and add it to a target session. This can be helpful if you've recorded your primary and secondary streams as separate sessions.

Note: Separated recordings that need to be merged later can be avoided when multiple computers are set to record to the same session prior to recording. To learn more about this, please see How to Use Distributed Recordings on Windows.

Prerequisites

  • Creator access to Panopto

Find the Folder of the videos you want to merge. Once you have found the Folder, hover over the first session to reveal the Settings icon. This session will not be altered but the target session will contain the first session below and the target session.

Settings icon

On the Settings page, click Manage.

Manage button in the settings menu

Click the drop down box from Merge into another session and select the Folder where the target session is located.

The target session is the session that you wish to merge with the current session.

Session merge selection

Select the target session and click Merge.

The current session and the target session will be re-encoded and synchronized as one recording.

Note: Panopto merges video sessions in the order in which they were recorded, using their timestamps. If you would like to adjust the order of the merged video streams, please see How to Edit and Add Streams in the Editor.

Session merge button

The target session will have now contain the original content plus all the content of current session.

The target session will undergo reprocessing after you click Merge and will be unavailable for viewing once you merge.

You will receive a message letting you know this upon hitting merge.

Merge confirmation box

Please allow time when merging for Panopto to process the file and merge sessions one merge at a time.
