Gideon's face is perpetually twisted in a scowl, although he'll drop that in favor of resting bitch face if he's in the presence of someone he likes. His smiles are rare and ephemeral, and a sure sign of approval.
He has upwards of a dozen barista uniforms, so rather than bother with changing his outfit, he just sticks with his uniforms every day. It consists of a forest green button up shirt with the Clark's Cafe logo embroidered at the breast. He often pairs this with a pair of black pants. For when he needs to fulfill his villain persona, Gideon will don a beige trenchcoat over everything (although he sometimes wears this trenchcoat to school with a scarf when it gets cold out).
"I must make a great villain." Gideon is obsessed with the idea of being evil. He uses his scary appearance and his cold, jaded personality to try to drive it home. He wants to instigate chaos, cause atrocities, and put people in misery. Problem is, he's not a good villain. Gideon naturally has a kind heart, is weak to cute things, and balks at the sight of gore.
Gideon is heavily religious, however, he very much bats for the other side. He owns a "Dark Bible" which is in actuality just a bunch of satanic notes. One day he hopes to be able to run his own church (and secretly teach them the power of the dark side). As a part of his religion, he preaches independency, self-advocacy, and tolerance.
As a regular at Clark's Cafe, Gideon is hopelessly addicted to coffee. He knows how to grind his own coffee, but he still comes to Clark's Cafe because he believes his coffee making skills are inferior. He feels the urge to better his coffee skills and without any sense of reason wants to learn to make latte art.
Gideon was born in the central district to a single parent family of one mother. He had never met his father ever in his life. As a wee child, Gideon filled his time watching movies and marvelling at the villains with their fearsome appearances and epic entrances. He vowed that when he grew up he would become a villain too.
At school, Gideon often got bullied for his family situation. This is where Gideon's prickly attitude began, and where his determination to become an excellent villain stemmed from.
In high school, three notable things happened. Gideon first joined a coffee shop called Clark's Cafe down in the South, where they served coffee in a reutilized church. Initially, Gideon was just a customer of the cafe until a barista named Pax convinced Gideon to give coffee making a try. It has been almost five years since Gideon joined the cafe.
While a customer for Clark's Cafe, Gideon began to read up on religion. Although intrigued enough to be proficient enough to give sermons, Gideon realized that he aligned better with the demons and brimstone.
Finally, when he was taking out money from a bank, he was caught up in the middle of a robbery. The robbery was instigated by none other than a fearsome member of the Scarlet Phoenixes by a person named Klaus. While he intended to be a fearsome, evil figure, Gideon just found them to be cool. He was taken hostage by Klaus to guarantee an escape route, and while Klaus intended to release Klaus after the robbery, Gideon demanded to be kept captive. After days of refusing to leave his captors, Klaus finally relented and allowed Gideon to stay, and took him under his wing.
While Klaus tried to teach Gideon the ways of being a villain, things were complicated by the fact that Gideon was a Non Potential user. However, Gideon refused to relent. He devised a plan: When an HP banker arrived at a certain parking lot, Gideon booby trapped the entire area with bombs. He had spent the past few days memorizing where they should be put, so by the time Gideon put the plan in action he already knew where every bomb was by heart.
After a tense battle where Gideon avoided getting into a direct confrontation with the banker through strategic explosions and a little known tactic called "using the elevator," Gideon was finally able to incapacitate the banker and rob him.
Stealing from the rich never tasted so good.
However, the banker did ask Gideon a question: "Who are you?" Gideon, who had not thought of a proper evil villain name yet, stuttered and said, "Ev-- Evielle?"
It was so cringe. Even worse, it actually became his villain name.
Klaus was impressed, but he couldn't let Gideon into the Phoenixes nonetheless. He was an NP after all. However, there was one day that Gideon realized that he was in fact a HP, not an NP. That day, he cursed God for making him so physically weak.
And with that, finally Klaus was able to sponsor him into the Phoenixes. Finally, Gideon's villain story could begin.
Currently, Gideon studies history at New Oasis Central University and rooms with a foreigner named Jozef.
Relations:
Ashley Hart: Gideon very much likes Ashley platonically. He also hides behind Ashley like a wall. Much to Ashley's dismay, Gideon pats Ash's head like he's a dog.
Suzurain: Gideon is scared that Suzu will one day merge him with a snow cone machine without his consent.
Yong-Yut Somsri: Gideon and YY have a complex relationship. They squabble and fight with each other. YY calls out Gideon's efforts of being evil. However, they have each other's backs, and Gideon even trusts YY with his bombs and detonation device. On occasion, Gideon will invite YY to hang out with him, in his own tsundere fashion.
Jozef Daalman: They're both studying History in college, and they room together. Gideon tries his best to be more affable and considerate to Jozef. Since they live together, Gideon doesn't act like a villain aside from the occasional prank or two. He enjoys flying with Jozef, although he was very scared the first time around.
Ottilie James: They're in the same dorm apartment, so they're always bumping into each other in the dorm lounge. Due to their proximity in living space, they often study together, eat together, and sometimes even banter about religion with each other. Gideon is jealous of Ottilie's intelligence. She will always have free coffee whenever she needs it.
Hector Moses: Gideon fears Hector, but Hector is one persistent Queen. This makes Gideon both terrified of Hector but also reliant on him. Secretly owns one of his T-shirts
Zulin: Gideon adores Zulin for all the wrong reasons, believing that Zulin is the key to becoming a better villain. Unfortunately, Gideon does not recognize that perhaps Zulin is manipulating Gideon.
Primary Class: Ether | Secondary Class: N/A | Alternative Name: Intrusive Thoughts
Potentiality Description: Gideon is able to send thoughts into anybody within thirty feet. These people will hear these thoughts in their own voice.
Strengths:
Gideon primarily uses his Potential as a fear tactic, putting thoughts of doubt in his enemy's minds
Alternatively, it can be used to give words of affirmation to his allies or provide communication
He also uses this during his sermons
Weaknesses:
No direct combat use
People can ignore the thoughts that come into their heads
Gideon lacks the strength of a typical HP
Weapon: Gideon's primary weapon is bombs. He is most effective when he has ample preparation time, setting bombs into specific areas and detonating them as soon as an enemy steps too close.
VILLAIN'S REPOSE
There was a new boy in the shop.
Clark's Cafe was a small coffee shop snuggled in the back alley of the town, popular only through word of mouth. It was rare for new people to come without a recommendation. It was even rarer for new people to become repeat visitors, considering the uncomfortable location of the shop.
But this boy, who showed up bright and early on winter days bundled in a biker gang jacket and a scarf, was an even rarer sight. Word of mouth said that he was involved in a gang, and that he was a force to be reckoned with. A delinquent like him, with a cruel and jaded look in his eyes hardly seemed to be the type of person to stay in a coffee shop. But day after day, the boy would show up, drape his jacket and scarf over the arm of an armchair, and with a taciturn tone, order a latte. He'd then sit and read for hours on end, sipping lattes until closing time. For Paxton, who often took the boy's order and made his drinks, it was a sight he was curious to see. He knew that the boy's name was Gideon, but didn't know anything else of the out of place and enigmatic boy.
"Why don't you talk to him?" Miles, Pax's shift manager encouraged him when he noticed Pax's curious gazes, "I could give you a free ten minute break if you want to say hi to him."
"No, it's fine," Pax, who couldn't fathom bending the rules for something so trivial, said. But he later got an opportunity when he made Gideon a latte, but when he brought it over to the boy he realized he had forgotten to add the steamed milk. He had delivered Gideon what essentially was a cup of coffee. Hastily, Pax announced his mistake and said, "One second, let me go fix this."
"No, let me try to do it," Gideon stopped Pax by grabbing onto his arm. Pax looked at Gideon's hard violet eyes seeing no room for negotiation, and simply nodded, disentangling himself gently to retrieve the steamed milk.
"Have you ever done this?" Pax asked Gideon. The boy shook his head no, but there was a determined look in his eyes that gave Pax no room for rejecting his offer. Pax did his best to guide Gideon on how to pour the microfoam into his latte. But Gideon was no coffee barista, and when it was all done, the latte art resembled a squashed heart.
"That's a shame," Gideon said bluntly, looking at his art with disappointment.
"We can try this again when you stop by next time for coffee," Pax reassured him. To his surprise, something glimmered in Gideon's taciturn violet eyes as he vigorously agreed.
From that day on, when Gideon walked into the coffee shop bundled in his warm clothing, Pax would teach him how to make latte art. When he brought the steamed milk and the coffee to Gideon's table, Gideon would always close his book and eagerly listen to what Pax had to teach.
"Could I get a redeye?" a tired looking Gideon asked one day at the counter. He had spent the past five hours pouring over his giant tome-like book, "Can you also save my table? I'm going out for a smoke."
"Sure," Pax said cheerfully. He was about to get off on a break, but he supposed making a redeye for Gideon wouldn't be too much of a bother before he took his fifteen minutes. Once finished with the small, energy-boosting drink, Pax placed it on the table that Gideon had occupied. Before he left though, the giant tome caught Pax's eye.
Pax frowned. Gideon wouldn't mind if he took a peek, right? No, he probably would, but Gideon was out smoking. So Pax gave into his curiosity and gave Gideon's tome a look.
It was like a bible, studiously earmarked and with purple notes jotted in the margin. Pax didn't find Gideon to be the kind of person to be into religion, but then again, there were all sorts of people who visited Clark's Cafe.
Pax took off his apron and stepped outside into the cold winter air. Snow covered the alleyway that Clark's Cafe was situated on, and in the background was the buzz of cars passing in the busy city intersection. Gideon was standing near the door, wearing only his t-shirt despite the low temperatures, inhaling from a vape.
He released the breath of smoke, sending a pleasant grape smell into the air, "Hey."
"Can I join you?" Pax asked, taking out his phone. After Gideon said nothing to tell him to go away, Pax continued, "I saw you had a bible."
Gideon looked up from his vape pen and gave Pax a cryptic look, "I'm guessing you're surprised since I look like I bat for the other team."
"No no no," Pax replied hastily, "I was just curious is all."
"Oh. Okay," Gideon puffed on his pen before he answered Pax, "I'm not from around here, I'm just visiting for the winter. I was hoping when I could go back home I'd be able to become a priest just like my parents were. But I'm not so sure about that anymore..."
"Why not?" Pax had to ask.
Gideon took another puff of his grape vape, "Just the sheer intolerance of it all. If I were a priest, I couldn't condone what my gang friends are doing. Not that I really wanted to be in the gang anyway. I was just there to avoid the bullying at school. I don't think I make a good gangster anyway."
Gideon gave a small grin. Admittedly, he might have looked scary at first, but Pax couldn't think of him that way anymore.
"Didn't the bible say to not to wear polyester of something like that?" Pax piped up.
"Close enough, but not quite," Gideon replied, "Why?"
"Well, would you hate others for wearing polyster?" Pax asked, "It's like whipped cream in coffee. I think it's gross, but I still make frappes anyway."
"I guess not," Gideon said. Pax could tell in his violet eyes that Gideon knew what he was getting at.
"So ignore those parts," Pax encouraged him, "Be a priest of acceptance."
"Hm," was all Gideon had to say as he continued to smoke on his vape pen. But the distant look in his eyes told Pax that he was thinking about what he had told him. There was a length of empty silence between the two of them. Pax scrolled emptily through his phone. He wasn't the type to check up on social media during his break, but the phone was the only way to escape the awkwardness. Pax shivered in the cold winter air.
"I'm going in first," Pax declared. But as he went in, Gideon put a hand on his arm.
"Thanks," Gideon said, a smile behind the vapors surrounding him. Pax nodded, not sure what to say.
A few weeks later, when Gideon was practicing his latte art, a determined crease in his brow, something great happened. He had managed to make a heart shape in the coffee, the edges of the microfoam gently fading into the light brown coffee.
"Hey, this looks really good," Pax said.
Gideon grinned quietly and took a picture of his completed latte art. Pax could really tell how quietly elated Gideon was.
"Hey, if becoming a priest isn't your thing," Pax suggested, "Why not become a barista?"
Being a barista wasn't all about latte art, but Gideon seemed pretty passionate about the subject, and Clark's Cafe was pretty shorthanded.
"You really think so?" Gideon looked up from his picture, his phone still hovering over the latte, "I'm going to be beat up so much if I did."
"What do you mean?" Pax asked.
Gideon explained to Pax his childhood. Endlessly bullied, he had been forced to join a street gang in order to scare the bullies off. Being in Clark's Cafe was the only time that he had been able to be himself and enjoy the things he did.
"Well, nobody bullies you on my watch," Pax said protectively, "Clark made this cafe to welcome and shelter all sorts of people. And that includes delinquents like you."
Gideon took a deep sip of his latte, his eyes distant once more. Pax was about to leave and suggest that Gideon gave it a bit more thought when Gideon spoke up.
"I'll do it."
