Cola is a man with a surprisingly deep timber in his voice despite his spindly stature. His upbringing in Enand has paradoxically broken him while he has risen above it. With a soft and fluffy demeanor, Cola can always view the future in a positive light, and he's quite the simple guy. He is unquestionably loyal to those he takes a liking to and has no sense of pride. And the sadistic nature of demons and reapers has rubbed off on him, although his soft-nature makes him an incredibly gentle sadist.
What helps is that he doesn't view his time as a pet negatively. This means that he is rather carefree with demons and learned most of his scythe fighting style from reapers, including his tendencies to tease his opponent if they lose in battle.
A young squire named Cola in Wevris dreamed of liberating Enand from demons. He held hubris about his swordsmanship, as he had once even beaten his training instructor in a sparring match when an example was supposed to be made of him. So when a fiefdom in Wevris decided to act as a raiding party to partake in the power struggle in Enand, Cola was one of the first ones to enlist as a fresh knight.
Lo and behold, Cola and the rest of the raiding party were no match for the demon warbands. While the rest of the raiding party was exterminated, Cola was solely granted mercy, as a demon named Alfeo thought it more entertaining if he were to break Cola's will.
Oddly, despite his hubris, Cola was quite easy to break. Gone was his sense of pride and chivalry, within a year, Cola was reduced to Alfeo's pet. Out of necessity, Cola learned bits and pieces of black magic in order to have a fighting chance of survival, preying on the flesh of his fallen comrade slaves as well as learning the craft of brewing alcohol from the dead vegetation.
Cola perfected his fighting abilities from his encounters with reapers. His first time, he was caught off guard by the monster, beaten soundly, and escaped before he could be tortured to death. The next time, Cola lost in combat with one, but ran away with his life. Throughout those repeat encounters, Cola would eventually learn the fighting style that reapers used, and eventually claimed a scythe to wield as his own.
At this point, Cola was on par combat wise with Alfeo, but served under him regardless with gusto and cheer. He fought side by side with Alfeo in the warband's conquests, and it seemed like they were making good advances. He even created a rare sense of companionship with his fellow slaves, acting as a protectorate against the dangers in Enand.
That was until Kael's warband moved to take down Alfeo's. Cola fought Kael on the battlefield and barely escaped with his life. In an instant, Alfeo's warband was destroyed, its members either bending the knee to Kael or, like Cola and Alfeo, fleeing. Alfeo went into hiding, sending Cola mail every so often.
Cola, on his part, went traveling the world on his own, finding his stride in a misfit group of travelers. Sometimes, Alfeo would provide Cola with news on his efforts to rebuild a warband to take Kael on. Cola relished the thought of such a possibility, and thus continued to hone his fighting abilities and his black magic.
Cola's weapon of choice is a reaper's scythe. It is corrupted with black magic and enchanted with higher durability, is lighter for the user, and feels heavier for everyone else.
Cannibalize: Cola turns his arm into a white maw, which can be used to metaphorically "eat" something, turning it into nutrition and healing him. Consuming dead things is easy, but trying to consume a living being requires continuous contact for an extended period of time
Devilsberry: Basic necromancy magic invented by Enand slaves. When focused on a dead plant, it is temporarily brought back to life and forced to produce fruit. This fruit's shelf life is ephemeral and is incredibly poisonous, except when brewed correctly into a cider.
Jinrou Form: Circulates black magic into the target to enhance their strength, speed, and reaction time. It also makes the target incredibly impulsive, making it difficult to stay set on a predetermined plan.
Endotherm: Black magic that removes heat from the target, creating a chilling effect. Cola knows how to either shoot it as a projectile or temporarily infuse his scythe with it. The projectiles present as white comic-like ghosts.
