Name: Trace Howell
Species: Human (Solar Magic)
Gender/Pronouns: Male (he/him)
Age/DOB: 20 (December 26th)
Height: 6ft flat
Birthplace: Montreal, Canada
Major: Mathematics
Appearance Notes: Trace is a tall, lanky man with mousy gray hair and softly defined features. He has a fine collection of comfortable yet semi-formal pants, button-ups, and waistcoats, which is what he is perpetually seen wearing, even in the hottest and coldest weather. His locket is worn underneath the shirt, its silver chain the only thing visible
Trace has a refined, if not slightly introverted and awkward manner of speech. He's a classic example of a preppy guy with a silver spoon in his mouth, with some of his perspectives out of skew with normal people. He is incredibly intelligent, with a particular interest in mathematics. Likely due to his terrible luck, Trace embodies a 'go-with-the-flow' approach to life.
In contrast to his polite and soft vibes, Trace is quite the mischievous guy. He is often seen with smuggled alcohol on campus grounds, even though he's not of drinking age yet. His drink of choice would be alcoholic seltzers. He's also a bit of an adrenaline junkie.
Although Trace is a human, it wasn't as if he didn't have experiences with the Hidden all his life. His mother was a powerful Flare witch, and his older brother was an alumnus from Inkwell University. Trace was just unfortunate in his birth, completely lacking any of the capabilities to use magic in the slightest. The only thing remotely supernatural about Trace was his terrible luck. Unfortunate things tended to happen around him, as if Trace were an actor on a stage shouting to the sky about Macbeth, although it directly harmed him. Both his father and mother were convinced that Trace's luck was supernatural in nature, although they had no proof of it.
While his brother was given the pressure of following in his mother's footsteps, Trace led a relatively mundane life. His family was relatively wealthy, so he enjoyed the luxury of going to a private charter school. Days were filled with academics and lounging indoors due to his weak constitution, rather than any magical studies.
That was until high school, when Trace got in a relationship with a boy who turned out to be, coincidentally, a Solar witch. His boyfriend, a gifted artificer, gave Trace a locket filled with Solar magic. It more or less allowed Trace to channel similar magic to his boyfriend. However, it didn't give Trace unilateral access to a witch's powers; he still had to learn how to use the magic, with the downside of having to channel through the locket. After schools became magical experimentation time with the help of his boyfriend as well as his older brother.
As luck would have it, that wasn't his only other run-in with a Hidden. An incident at school led Trace to be bitten by a lycanthrope. However, with three powerful witches behind his back, Trace was able to miraculously fend off the effects of the bite and, to this day, is completely asymptomatic of any lycan abilities, save for a boost in his constitution.
With all the supernatural happenings whirring around Trace, he decided that he wanted to be more involved with the supernatural world. It was his boyfriend who first suggested potentially trying to enroll at Inkwell University. Even though enrollment typically excluded humans, his boyfriend believed that there was enough 'inhuman' elements around Trace that he could get through. And lo and behold, it was; Trace could now call himself a mathematics transfer student at Inkwell University.

His mother, a Flare witch
Trace is polyamorous
Solar witches have their powers tied to the sun. Trace's locket allows him to channel solar magic, although he is essentially hyper-specialized because of it. He is also incapable of other manifestations of witchcraft aside from spellcasting, such as potions.
