Stories

Character Story 1

If one were to go to the southside of Liyue Harbor, next to the industrial boom of food stands, there will often be a boy furtively spraying the walls with spray paint, always accompanied by his horde of friendly spiders.

That is Yuhai, a quasi-reformed Treasure Hoarder who spends his days wandering the streets of Liyue Harbor, sampling the food, and revitalizing the streets with colorful murals. While seemingly a scary individual from the outside, if one were to introduce themselves to Yuhai, they'd immediately tell that the guy's just a dork.

Character Story 2

Although he may not look the part, Yuhai has always been nothing more than a street urchin. His parents served in the Millelith but died valiantly defending Liyue Harbor from a horde of Abyss mages. It left Yuhai on the streets to fend for himself.

Although Liyue's food was cheap and the Millelith always allowed Yuhai to sleep underneath the bridge, the climate in Liyue was definitely not good. The winter nights were cold, the summer nights harsh and warm. While Yuhai was able to get a warm blanket for the winter, he still had to defend it from anybody who dared to take it away from him when the Millelith weren't watching. During the summer, the mosquitos were violent, biting any exposed skin.

That's where Yao and Dao stepped in to become his savior. They were large, intelligent spiders the size of Yuhai's palm, who cared for him when he needed it the most. Dao vehemently defended him against the mosquitos and anybody who dared to take his possessions away from him. And whenever Yuhai got himself in a scuffle in the streets, Yao would be there to help patch him up with his gauze-like spider silk.

Character Story 3

Yuhai joined the treasure hoarders on the hopes of being able to earn more money and to sustain himself. The streets certainly weren't lacking in intrigue, but Yuhai had become tired of it. His only motivation to stay in the treasure hoarders was money itself, and he was selectively oblivious to the atrocities that the treasure hoarders often committed.

Yuhai also wasn't keen on recognizing the dark sides of the treasure hoarders. When he showed interest in learning the cryo concoctions that cryo potioneers were known for, even those who found Yuhai's personality to be disagreeable found value in the cold brews that Yuhai made. Nevertheless, after many months of working with the hoarders, Yuhai realized that despite the good pay, it wasn't a good idea to stay.

Character Story 4

During one auspicious afternoon, as Yuhai was vandalizing a nondescript wall in Liyue Harbor, he was met by an odd figure with red eyes and snow white hair. Yuhai had heard that this person was named Enki, a diplomat from Sumeru.

Knowing how high up in a position Enki was in, Yuhai braced to be lectured or reported to the Millelith for his behavior. However, unexpectedly, Enki inquisitively asked Yuhai about his street art, and bizarrely, expressed interest in joining in.

From there blossomed an odd friendship between the two people of near opposite walks of life. Yuhai showed Enki how to experience Liyue culture. And it was most fortunate that Enki arrived in Yuhai's life when he did. Yuhai had been debating whether or not to return to the Treasure Hoarders due to his financial situation. Enki provided some well needed Mora relief.

But Yuhai was apprehensive about accepting Enki's generosity. He didn't want to be like a parasite leeching off of someone else.

"Don't worry about a sewer rat like me," Yuhai would say with false positivity, "I can survive with or without Mora. Don't worry."

But Enki still helped Yuhai out, regardless of whether or not he vocalized his need for help. So Yuhai did his best to repay him by being a good friend, by showing meager generosity when he could, and showing a simultaneous cluelessness and appreciation of Enki's "hip" appearance, as Yuhai would put it.

Character Story 5

The type of life that Yuhai strives to live is one that is incredibly simple. He doesn't concern himself over owning many material possessions, nor is he too concerned about getting himself off the streets. Morality to Yuhai is a black and white issue, and if there is a thing such as a moral gray, Yuhai would just prefer not to think about it. The same goes for his every day dealings. Although many would find Edrich of the Adventurer's Guild to be an odd fellow, Yuhai spends his commissions with him in careless enjoyment. While he gets in fights with Hayate on occasion, he never lets them turn into grudges.

Sometimes it led Yuhai getting ripped off or hurt on the streets. And although Yuhai has developed the street smarts necessary to keep himself alive, everything is more instinct rather than logic.

Cause to Yuhai, he wasn't interested in the nitty gritty of life, of debating literature, of managing a hundred different things. A happy life was a simple life.

Liyue Street Art

One of the remainders of Yuhai's alchemical endeavors is his collection of spray cans. These utilize metal cans condensed with anemo power allow Yuhai to expel a blast of whatever was stored inside. He initially used these spray cans to fire cryo concoctions, but upon receiving his vision and leaving the Treasure Hoarders, there wasn't any use for them.

So Yuhai developed a collection of spray paints in order to repurpose the spray cans. It opened Yuhai's eyes to the possibilities of street graffiti.

Initially, Yuhai was hopelessly bad at drawing. He didn't like his graffiti, nor did the Millelith, who often arrived minutes after Yuhai finished his art to scrub the art off.

But gradually, Yuhai became more experienced, and he was able to make colorful murals to adorn Liyue Harbor. By then, the ire that he attracted from the Millelith transformed into resigned tolerance. Finally, the colorful art that was spread around Liyue Harbor caught the eye of the merchants and the Qixing, who rather than condemning him, commissioned him to improve the look of the Harbor.

Thankfully, this allowed Yuhai to avoid going on the streets, and in extension, discourage him to return to the Treasure Hoarders.

Vision

Yuhai never really needed the assistance of a vision to prove his might in combat. Armed with the knowledge of making the cooling brews that cryo potioneers had, he was capable of holding his own against even a vision holder.

Even when faced with a pyro regisvine, who had struck down two of his treasure hoarding allies and forcing Yuhai to engage it in battle to protect them, Yuhai was able to almost defeat it. That was until Yuhai reached into his bag to realize he had only one bottle of the icy brew left. As he lobbed it at the regisvine's corolla, he prayed that it would be enough.

Even as it shattered, Yuhai knew deep down it wasn't going to kill it. As he looked down at imminent death, he reached into his bag, hoping to find another bottle.

While he didn't find such a thing, he found something else. Something he knew he didn't pack, but was grateful for nonetheless.

Gripping his vision, a whip of piercing water slashed through the regisvine.

Voice Lines

Fuck no, I didn't do voice acting

Hello

"The name's Yuhai, greatest thief in all of Liyue! I'm retired now, but between the two of us... if you ever need something from the shops around here and you're out of mora, I'm the guy for your job. Heh heh."

Chat: Yao and Dao

"This spider here is named Yao. And that feisty gal's Dao. Their personalities are like fire and ice, I wonder how they're even siblings."

Chat: Arachnids

"If not for the spiders, I would have had to deal with twice the mosquitos when I was on a treasure hunt. They bite anybody who tries to steal from me. And their webs act as really good bandages. I really owe Yao and Dao a lot."

Chat: Idyllic

"Ahhh... life's so hectic, it's really nice to finally sit down once a while and just... do nothing, you feel?"

Chat: Procrastination

"Oh, this? Just a little unfinished bit of graffiti artwork that I've been putting off. I want to make the color right, but I can't seem to envision what it should look like. Can't seem to finish it til the moment of inspiration strikes... I really should get it done before the Qixing starts nagging me."

Chat: Frugality

"My mora situation? Nah, don't worry about it, I've got a hold on it. The money from when I was a treasure hoarder will keep me afloat. As long as I'm careful what I'm buying, I should be fine. And if things don't turn out well... I'm happy to say that adventuring alongside you has given me a new lifeline."

Chat: Mischief

"What do you say when the Millelith aren't watching we go spray paint something a bit more racy? That should be fun."

When it Snows

"The landscape looks so ethereal and beautiful when it's covered in snow. It's almost as if the sun shines twice as bright and the lanterns glow twice as strong."

When the Wind Blows

"This trusty coat has been what's kept me warm all these years on windy nights... Drats, no! Get back here dumb coat!"

When it Rains

"Agh, no! The poor spiders, let's go get them some umbrellas so their webs don't get wet during this storm."

After it Rains

"Damn, looks like the rain washed away my graffiti. No worries though, I'll just have to make a mural twice as beautiful to replace it!"

When Lightning Strikes

"Gah! I uhh... whew. That was embarrassing. No, no, no, I swear I'm not scared of lightning! Nuh uh."

Good Morning

"Mmrmph... let me sleep in a a bit longer..."

Good Afternoon

"I know this awesome hole-in-the-wall that sells super cheap Yue style cuisine. Come on, you've gotta try it out!"

Good Evening

"What say we watch the sun sets before we call it a day?"

Good Night

"Already going? Hey, thanks for sticking with me. This has been so much more fun and wholesome than anything I would have gotten from the Treasure Hoarders."

About Yuhai: Treasure Hoarders

"The treasure hoarders are absolute trash. They prey on the weak and innocent; conduct their experiments without a care towards human life. I was so stupid to associate with filth like them..."

About Yuhai: Spider Webs

"A web behind my ear? Thanks for telling me, I'll be real careful not to scratch that area then. Huh? Don't I want to brush it off? Nah, they'll find somewhere more sustainable within a day. And while they stay, they'll keep any bugs out of my hair."

Something to Share

"Liyue has some fantastic flea markets that sell all the wares you'd need at a much cheaper price than what you'd find anywhere else. That is, if you know the art of haggling. With my lack of Mora, this has been a necessity for me, even though I don't like the deception involved. If you ever need to buy something, hit me up, I can show you how to get the best bang for your buck."

Interesting Things

"I've taken a liking to living in a crate. They feel safer than being exposed to the air, and they do a decent job of keeping the wind out during the winters. You can paint it any color really show your personality. And best of all, it's much less conspicuous. Although I suppose with the flashy colors mine has, it still really stands out, huh?"

About Edrich

"Edrich's rates are affordable, his adventuring skills are top par, and he's always available when I miss treasure hunting and want to go on an adventure. Our adventures together come out pretty clutch when I'm running low on money. Also he helped me make a sweater once! How awesome is that?!"

About Hayate

"Oh, yeah, the guy that follows Edrich around on his commisions! He's cool, I always refer to us two as the 'dum bums' of the group. We get into squabbles about misunderstandings all the time, but in the end, he's a pal through and through. I've been pretty curious about his homeland though since I've read a lot of stories from Inazuma... it's a shame he's not willing to talk to me about it."

About Enki

"Oh the Sumeru diplomat with the wicked white hair and red eyes? Yeah, he's pretty chill. He's chipper, super nice, and he recognizes the value of graffiti! What's not to like about that?! I just hope that some day he can show me around the world. But I need to save up enough Mora for that first. I can't always be relying on Enki for help."

About Lixue

"A pretty boy with a rancid personality. I don't like that. I've talked with Lixue occassionally, and I really can't stand him. But his music is evocative, so when I have the energy, I like to sneak into his concerts to have a listen."

About Murmux

"I'm not particularly pious, but I wouldn't mind worshipping Murmux. She's fantastically chaotic, just as long as she doesn't fry my hair with electricity."

About Meili

"I heard there's a spirit that lives around Nantianmen. I really hope she's okay with me foraging herbs, berries, and veggies from the forest."

More About Yuhai

"I snagged some trimmings and scraps to make some soup. Want a bowl?"

More About Yuhai II

"I don't get why people are so scared of spiders. They keep things clean, their webs are cool, and the big ones are real cute and fuzzy! Hey, how about I show you? Open your hand wide, I promise Yao doesn't bite as long as you don't scare him."

More About Yuhai III

"I should get permission first before I draw this? Why? Isn't all the fun in subverting authority? There's just this thrill of emotion that I get from sneaking off and breaking the rules. Heh... maybe I've become an adrenaline junkie of sorts."

More About Yuhai IV

"I wouldn't say my living situation is in any way too bad. Nobody knows the streets of Liyue as well as I do. I'm not the type that likes to own too many things, so a portable stove and a blanket is plenty for me. I'd also much rather get to experience the fresh air than to be cooped up all day in a house. So don't worry about me. Besides, if I really wanted to get off the streets, all I'd have to do is book a room at Wangshu Inn, right?"

Favorite Food

"Glutinous rice balls are the real stuff. The bean paste inside is like a nice sweet surprise. The chewiness of the rice keeps your mouth entertained for millions of moments. It's just a shame that whenever I try to savor it, it always gets cold. Then it just doesn't sit well in my stomach."

Least Favorite Food

"I really can't bring myself to eat noodles. There's nothing wrong with them, it's just when I was younger, I was given longevity noodles on my birthday. It was like a single strand of noodle that encompassed the entire bowl. Well... was just that I choked on mine and almost died. Heh. How ironic. Choking and dying on noodles meant to celebrate the length of your life."

About the Vision

"The vision is like a shield. My treasure hoarding friends would go through all kinds of danger for the chance of treasure, so it'd be up to me to defend them. It's also pretty useful when I'm out on the streets, I can't be relying on Dao to defend my meager belongings all the time, can I?

Yuhai's Troubles

"I know I said I've given up on the thief life. But ever now and then I get the urge to just snatch something. Sometimes the stuff I want to steal doesn't even make sense. Like, what do I do with lipstick? Use it to steal people's hearts? I beg of you, stop me whenever I look like I'm about to snatch something."

Yuhai's Theme: "Kites and Kabobs of Liyue"
