Как игра продолжается

The process that starts from the initial configuration and ends in the reception of points is called xot1 (pronounces like SHOT). One game is composed of several xot1 processes.

Preparation: Give 20 points to each player.

Placing the pieces in the initial configuration, the xot1 starts.

Both players cast sticks. The player with the larger number moves first.

A. Moving the piece

1. Choosing the starting point

Choose a piece belonging to you to move. Start moving the piece, with the piece's original location as the starting point.

Special procedures

  • If the starting point is hop1 zuo1, the piece starts to move to an unoccupied square.

  • If the starting point is tam2 hue, the piece starts to move in the tam2 hue manner.

2. Going to a via point

If the place that a piece can move to is occupied by another piece, it is possible to let the occupied square be a via point and make an additional movement from there. This process is called stepping over.

  • You cannot step two or more pieces in a single turn.

  • If you plan to make an infinite movement after stepping over, you must cast sticks; the number of dark side gives the upper limit of squares that you can move. This process is called the stepping-over cast. If you are not satisfied with the number, you can pass the turn to the opponent.

When stepping over:

Special procedure

  • If the via point is in tam2 hue, move in the tam2 hue manner.

When not stepping over:

See 3.

3. Choosing the final destination

Let the final destination be the place that the piece has moved to.

When the final destination is occupied by an opponent's piece, the opponent's piece is added to your hop1 zuo1.

Special procedure

If the final destination is tam2 nua2, you need to cast sticks and get three dark-sided faces or more in order to enter tam2 nua2. This process is called the water-entry cast.

Exception:

  • If the moving piece is either a Vessel or the tam2,

  • Or when the starting point was a tam2 nua2,

  • Or when you are moving a piece from your hop1 zuo1,

Then the water-entry cast is not needed.

If the cast resulted in less than three dark-sided faces, the water entry fails; the piece returns to the original starting position and your turn immediately ends.

B. Check whether a new hand is completed

After doing A., check your own hop1 zuo1. If an additional hand is newly completed, see C.Otherwise the turn ends.

C. Choose whether to end or continue the xot1, and declare your choice

If you want to terminate the xot1, declare ta xot1 ('end the xot1') and obtain the points; the game goes on to the next xot1. If you want to raise the stake and continue, declare ty mok1 ('go again'), which will cause the future point acquisition in this xot1 to double. Opponent's turn begin immediately after the declaration of ty mok1.

Both players alternately play the turn (each of which is composed of A., B. and C.) until one of them declares "ta xot1".

The declaration of ta xot1 terminates the xot1.

When ta xot1 is declared, ONLY the player who declared it obtains the points.

Example

With a Pawn, a Tiger and a Horse in hop1 zuo1, the hand "The Animals" is completed. → If ta xot1, obtains three points from the opponent.

↓If ty mok1, the stake is doubled.

Additionally obtains an Archer, completing another hand "The Cavalry" . → If ta xot1, three points from The Animals and five points from The Cavalry adds up to eight; since the stake is doubled, obtains sixteen points from the opponent.

↓If ty mok1, the stake is doubled again,

The opponent committed The Futile Move of the Minds. → If ta xot1, the opponent obtains negative twelve points: that is, the opponent pays twelve points.

Deciding the winner

Repeat xot1 a predetermined number of times (one, two or four). The player with higher points after all the xot1 have ended wins.

Or, if one player attains forty points, that amounts to the immediate victory (because the opponent has lost all the points).

The names of xot1

When the number of xot1 that constitutes a game is:

  • one, it is either called iei2 (Spring) or is left nameless.

  • two, they are either called iei2 (Spring) and xo1 (Summer), or sau2 xot1 (Upper xot1) and ut2 xot1 (Lower xot1).

  • four, they are called iei2 (Spring), xo1 (Summer), kat2 (Autumn) and iat1 (Winter).
