Additional information:
U8 stops at this station.
The station was closed due to World War II damage between april 1945 and 22 May 1945.
This station wasn't accessible for travellers during 13 August 1961 - 22 December 1989. The GDR built the Berlin Wall, ending freedom of movement between East and West Berlin in 1961. As a result, the Berlin public transit network, was also divided into two. The line we call U8 today, ran for the most part through West Berlin but passed through a relatively short stretch of East Berlin territory in the city centre. This line continued to be open to West Berliners; however, trains did not stop at the stations located within East Berlin, though for technical reasons they did have to slow down significantly while passing through.
This station functioned a short period as border control point, starting from 22 December 1989 until 1 July 1990.
