Name: Brandenburger Tor (August 8, 2009)
Former name: Unter den Linden (ULU)
Opening: July 27, 1936
Next stations: Friedrichstraße (660 meter) ← Brandenburger Tor → (1.120 meter) Potsdamer Platz
The station was closed due to World War II damage between April 21, 1945 and June 2, 1946.
This station wasn't accessible for travellers during the period August 13, 1961 - September 1, 1990. The GDR built the Berlin Wall, ending freedom of movement between East and West Berlin in 1961. As a result, the Berlin public transit network, was also divided into two. The line we call S2 today, ran for the most part through West Berlin but passed through a relatively short stretch of East Berlin territory in the city centre. This line continued to be open to West Berliners; however, trains did not stop at the stations located within East Berlin.
The station was closed due to reconstuction works between August 18, 1991 until March 1, 1992.
The name Under den Linder was changed in Brandenburger Tor on 8 August 2009. On that date the U55 was opened with a station Brandenburger Tor. The name Unter den Linden was reserved for a new station on the U5-line.
