This academic course focuses on health, the nutritional properties of food and what they do in the body. Raises awareness of a balanced diet, special dietary needs and preventing diet related diseases. Research techniques and presentation skills will also be developed.


Course Content:

  • Food for Health: Students will develop knowledge of health, nutrition, dietary needs and advice, as well as lifestyle choices and their impact on health.

  • Food product development: Students will focus on the development of new food products. Examining the food development process including sensory testing.

  • Contemporary Food Issues: New issues in food development will be examined in detail including: organics, fair trade and seasonality.


Limited practical lessons linked to, new food product development and functional food properties.

Assessment:

  • N5/H Written exam worth 50%

  • Assignment worth 50%.
